Oblivian: I can't tell if i missed some sarcasm in the initial enquiry or if it wasn't clear.
It was a rhetorical question, along the lines of "you know, if only there was some global computer network we could use to look up the thing you've just asked" and similar.
neb: ... I expect the food outlets and nail salons to have their posters up approximately never.
I see a business opportunity here.

I can't see it. It's opt-in with no enforcement so no-one will want to go and pay you to do it for them. Even the overhead of going round to sell it to businesses and then doing the sign-up work will make it unprofitable unless you charge an unreasonable amount for each poster. That's why it has to be done by the organisation that already has all the data to automate the process. They already have some system in place to create the posters based on a trigger from the business owner, all they need to do is remove that roadblock, do it automatically for every business, and mail them out.
Fustrating that some bizs are using Govt images (e.g. the iconic yellow/white thingy) and using it for their QR code poster. Makes people think it's the govt's system but its actually for something quite different. I've been caught out several times myself.
So far only managed to use it once, at PB Tech in Manukau. They seem to have set up a really good system for manging things at Level 2.

I've seen car sales and sporting goods use the zebra tape banding on nearly everything for attention to their Covid reopening sales!
MurrayM:I popped up to the Glenfield Mall for lunch and had a look around for any QR codes. I honestly didn't expect to see many, based on others experiences and the fact that retailers don't actually have to offer them.
I found that McDonalds in the food court had one, but not the government one. Instead it took you to some website to enter your contact details.
The only other one I could find was EB Games, and they were using the government one.

I was at Glenfield mall yesterday. Briscoes had the QR code at the door, but scanning is not enforced. I took the time to scan but while I was opening the app and scanning , 3 other groups of customers just went straight in.
No QR at the Warehouse, just limiting numbers.
Pretty poor all round.
Managed to scan the QR code at the hairdressers and LifePharmacy in Riccarton Mall last Thursday.
Unable to to scan at SALs Pizza at hornby mall entrance. It was coming up with something like its not in the database

Remember that there is no requirement for retail to record details for contact tracing.
Retail businesses:
- need to keep customers 2 metres apart
- do not need to keep records of customers to enable contact tracing.

How will they do it for people without smart phones?

Perhaps a smart move might be to carry round something like business cards, with your details on them. Add a date & time, and drop them in a slot.

I was about to say this. However, stores that cannot keep customers 2 metres apart need to contact trace still. That's why stores like EB Games are contact tracing, even though they otherwise wouldn't need to. Fortunately they have adopted the official QR code now.
