With my medical status taking a significant downturn I have been forced to put my normal day to day activities on hold. This has sent me again to the dark place that is depression. I am using the techniques taught to me by my son to try and control it but for now pain would seem to be winning. I desperately need the weather in Te Whanganui-a-Tara to warm up so I can spend more time outside which is my happy place. Sunlight helps with crushing fatigue and the warmth and sounds of outside definitely lifts ones spirits.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Not a lot I can say other than I hope that you start to feel better (mentally, if not also physically) sooner rather than later.

I agree - having struggled a bit mentally over the last couple of years, sunlight and being outdoors in it really does help.

Hang in there @MikeB4

Would a radiant heater help replicate that feeling of warmth that the sun provides?

Vitamin D tablets are a thing and apparently, are quite important for NZ Winters.

@MikeB4 I get the part about some sun and its warmth. Sun always seems to make everything feel a lot better and for a change we have had two days worth in Wellington.

Have you tried a Tens machine for pain. Not that expensive and maybe worth a try. If you google Tens machine NZ, Chemist Warehouse, and a few other places have various types under $100

Ask a good mate to come over as the distraction is helpful in shifting focus. Hope it goes soon.

I have a TENS unit and it helps with leg or arm pain but doesn't help with spinal pain especially cervical spine

Is this the right thread to actually lay out my problems...or would I be better speaking to a counsellor.

I don't want to bring anyone down or weigh them down with my crap.

This thread is a place to share and get a sympathetic hearing. It is not a place to get professional help.

I am sure that Pain and Fatigue are evil twins probably undocumented offspring of Loki that conspire to rob you of sleep to perpetuate their miserable existence.

Fatigue sticks the knife in. Pain twists it. I'm sorry you are having to endure this again, Mike.

Wee lad down with hand foot and mouth, so all the joy in his tiny little world is limited to poking Dad in the face and telling him that's where his nose is. Useful information for sure, but pretty tough to see him so miserable and refusing food.

Unsure if it's related but I've woken up after a bloody awful night of sleep and with dull aching pains in my forearms (possibly from carrying him so much over the last few days) and just totally exhausted. I've been keeping watch for the last couple of nights but I'm so tired now that if something did go wrong, I wouldn't even be roused by it on the monitor.

It's been a long time since mine were that small and I'd hate to try and carry either of them (both hovering around 6ft), but I do remember those times fairly well.

Not fun for dad or child. Hang in there...it ends eventually.

The deep muscle/dull bone pain ended up being Covid. So now that's blowing through us. We've been on a rollercoaster of daycare bugs and sicknesses for almost all of this year and now we're having to isolate and away from family over the long weekend and after my birthday.

Every time we get close to normality or making plans to do stuff, we get another set-back like this. It really is starting to take a mental toll. On top of the pandemic and everything else it feels like life has just been on hold for almost three years now, and this year has been one relentless slog.
