I don't bother watching/listening as I cannot be bothered with the superfluous waffle that goes on before there's any useful information. The whole thing could be over in 30 minutes but it drags on. I suspect the TV networks have figured out people aren't watching for as long as they used to.

I find it is the medias questions afterwards where you get a lot of the answers, as the information often has to be extracted from them.. Otherwise the press releases often just have the information they want you to know.

The issue I have with most of the reporting internationally ( and Mr Morrison's latest outburst ) is that they don't mention that the cases being detected are likely to have occured pre lockdown - and that the lockdown will need a week or two to show if there is any impact. The insinuation ( by omission ) is that these cases are occurring in spite of the lockdown. If the lockdown doesn't work - then by all means have at us.

Clint

The problem then is flouting of the lockdown. People held events during the last Auckland lockdown which caused new cluster outbreaks. I think they referred to them as sub clusters .

Definitely. Maybe if Kiwis are delicate we might be complacent if all cases are not "in" the community? But its good info. We get 41 cases and throw our hands up, or they find are all locked down for days, that's good news. We can mark them off as no issue "right now",  re spread.

My concern is not the people who obey the letter of the law and the spirit of the lockdown. If we start getting LOIs post-lockdown then the people who know better or won't play ball are putting themselves at the front of the queue to get it. This is how NSW got out of hand - it spread between the idiots who didn't want to play by the rules and circulated in their households, who then infected other idiots. If one of them gets sick enough, they could infect hospital workers or other people needing medical care.

yeahhh

Bloomfield said cases were increasing coming from locations of interest or from close contacts, rather than from people who were infected pre-lockdown.

Cool. The idea was mooted a few days ago by some reporters. Someone smart must have agreed :)

NSW has been doing it forever. Its a way to ease the worry, or enhance compliance if we know this

Yeah, I mean. Agreed to it HERE. It was NSW that the use case the reporter used.. And a few of us have mentioned the figure previously as the /expletive's/ factor.

(unless you are replying to that poster that it's old news ;) )

There are companies supposed to do contactless deliveries only but are now set up for "contactless collection". Is this acceptable?

Workplace operations at COVID-19 alert levels — business.govt.nz:

"Agricultural supply stores and pet stores cannot open but can offer contactless delivery."

Farm work doesn't stop just because of lockdown.

Our local PGG's are essential suppliers to farmers and a lot of it is too small to need delivering. You phone in your order and then pick it up at the door.

We get all out horse feed there as well. They wouldn't deliver that.

From todays Health select committee hearing

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/covid-19-coronavirus-delta-outbreak-41-new-community-cases-total-now-148/OTY5RC4RPD4XKPC45LMYEBPAS4/

Public health director Dr Caroline McElnay has told the committee that there are three types of contacts in the latest outbreak.

There were 369 close plus contacts, 51 per cent of whom had test results, and 11 per cent were positive. There were 14,967 close contacts, 56 per cent had returned test results, and 0.2 per cent were positive. And there were 405 casual plus contacts, about half of whom were tested, with no positive results so far.

Dr Bloomfield has also confirmed that two people who used a walkway and who were being sought in the investigation into how the Delta variant leaked from the Crowne Plaza in Auckland have been located and are being interviewed.

Some interesting stats -but not enough test returned yet for a definitive conclusion

I never said they are not essential. My point is that the order says contactless delivery but some shops are doing contactless collection. Very different things and delivery means less people on the roads.

I suspect they've redefined "close contact"... 15,000 "close" contacts for 75 (rounded for ease of mental arithmetic) or so identified cases, so about 200 close contacts per infectious person. That doesn't correspond with my concept of "close". I'd guess that it must now mean "unmasked in the same room". And "close plus" mean "unmasked within 2m for several minutes", resulting in about 5 per identified case.

I got a contactless delivery from Courier Post while I was fixing our letterbox today.  Maintained distance of about 4m, I asked him to throw the package, I managed to catch it (knew it wasn't fragile), posed so that he was able to take a photo of the delivered package in my hands, all good.

For sure they have.  AB explained it in the presser today.

They really need to update their website:

https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-novel-coronavirus/covid-19-health-advice-public/contact-tracing-covid-19

I won't post what I remember of what AB said as it won't be accurate, there's probably a transcript somewhere.
