What do you make of this then

I've seen numerous at-home pyramid facial care mums advertising like this tonight. (Pictured is an Auckland retail/salon - a Member of the NZ registered Beauty therapist)

'Beauty products: such as makeup' are exclusively mentioned as not essential. And when I pointed out how stupid that was - Reply - But it's moisturiser, not makeup - which is (the image I hauled them up on said "Exfoliating is essential" and advertised this at home Social Media sales)

https://www.business.govt.nz/covid-19/operating-at-alert-levels/

medicinal and hygiene products: such as medication, PPE, first aid products, soaps, shampoos, moisturisers and hand sanitisers

I read above, as one is to compliment the other. Dry alcohol hands vs moisturise. And people at home should not be out and about, or getting a already over-run/under the pump courier around for it.

It is not farking essential. There's no reason to go out to collect crap like that.

And I agree. Not one other on the person I shot down does. Because, you know 'it's not hurting you' And 'Supporting local businesses is a good thing Karen'

Someone else has supported citing they were given the all clear to sell Sunscreen and Moisturiser as is essential.

I can see it now.

"buy this 10ml Moisturizer for $45 and I throw in this FREE 300ml facial scrub"

Ironically it appears the NZ Association of Registered Beauty Therapists has still got the we can't trade until lvl2 as standard info up. But these rogues are all over contactless sales Right now.

Do you think these covidiots even belong to the NZ Association of Registered Beauty Therapists? As you said, "rogues".

The official website of the top one openly advertises they are (is how I found there was one). Yep.

Even Beauty in the name isn't enough for them to consider their items 'beauty products' (because they're not 'makeup' like it says.. they have SPF ratings.. and moisturiser!)

Most are claiming 'some' products can't be sold but are operating under the strict MBIE guidelines. But we know strict those are not

The issue I have with most of the reporting internationally ( and Mr Morrison's latest outburst ) is that they don't mention that the cases being detected are likely to have occured pre lockdown - and that the lockdown will need a week or two to show if there is any impact. The insinuation ( by omission ) is that these cases are occurring in spite of the lockdown. If the lockdown doesn't work - then by all means have at us.

Max Rashbrooke has written an opinion in The Guardian responding to the negative reporting in the UK about the lockdown

Physician, heal thyself. This phrase has been in my thoughts ever since global media outlets, most of them British, started mocking New Zealand’s Covid elimination strategy last week.

I’m a proud British passport holder, and spent some of my best years in London, but not once during this pandemic have I ever wished to be anywhere except New Zealand. That holds true even though we’re now back in lockdown while the British freely enjoy what passes for a summer there.

If I put my cynical hat on I think we've got to be grateful our vaccination numbers are so low! Trying to further vaccination numbers when there might be ~50% of cases in vaccinated people is going to be hard.

If everybody was vaccinated then 100% of cases will be in vaccinated people.  Nothing surer!

No dates are selectable though, at least not for me.

Not long to go either way.

I've just been having a stab. The CHC orchard rd one has disappeared (may be standing down soon?). Most local GPs/med centre show as none. But there are other mall locations that do from oct 12. So mixed bag

As long as you got some on the books you can always try shorten. Or it may be they are only taking referal like bookings through the DHB (CDHB handle theirs through 'CANVAX' differently - no code or talking to the .health system)

Heh. And Wow. Just noticed even 1-day/warehouse/market is doing mascara and facial scrubs guised as 'essential personal care'. Errr. Whats mascara again.. Makeup? Preeeety sure that's in the Aug 20 order change no-no.

/edit - AHA! Finally someone that acknowledges it on (some) of their stuff (once you click it)

This is a non-essential item, you can place an order but dispatch may be delayed due to NZ Level 4 Covid restrictions.

Batman:

all i hear in the news is x person contracted covid and has been fully vaccinated

i speak to people everyday who doesn't want the vaccine because "it doesn't work"

i think the MOH should explain the purpose of vaccination in the main and social media

I think the public expects to hear if people working in roles like MIQ are fully vaccinated or not. And I think it is well clear by now that the vaccine isn't perfect at stopping people getting covid-19, but is pretty good at stopping them from getting really sick.

Messaging on the vaccine for a while is that it reduces the risk of transmission, and that few fully vaccinated people require hospital care. I don't think vaccinated people getting the virus detracts from this message.

I was really surprised yesterday (I think) when Newshub described the rate of vaccination of our current cases (15% 1+ dose, 3% fully vaccinated) as terrible, or similar, and said it would give ammunition to the opposition. They seemed to completly miss that being fully vaccinated impacts ones odds of catching the virus...

Batman:

staff found to be positive from routine testing, not because of symptoms (also fully vaccinated as above). we're in for the long haul?

i mean how many people are walking around with it not knowing they have this

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/covid-19-coronavirus-delta-outbreak-two-thirds-of-cases-younger-than-30/EPOARECKYB3NB6HYKIYS7AVL5Q/

There will be at least one, and one person is all we need to trigger a new outbreak.

We will need to wait two transmission cycles (is it shorter than 14 days for delta) in lock-down after detecting the last non isolating case in the hope that any cases we have missed in burn themselves out in their households before lock-down is lifted.

Out of interest did anyone put hand up from here for the Contact Tracing surge?

Seems there was over 2000 applications for the initial 600. With some internal partner requests also filling some additional seats.

I contemplated it with a few hours spare here and there. But the thought of being the potential bad-news breaker (and question asker) scared me off a little.
