You mustn't have been trying too hard, there are drive through vaccine centers in at lease a couple of places in Auckland and while they say appointments i know a lot of people who have just shown up. So no excuse on that front.

Just do it.

Here we go again. So you want me to show up and take doses from our frontline staff?

Regardless, it is just as far as my appointment and Ive heard of people being turned away as many as Ive heard getting through. But Im not going to cheat the system out of selfishness. Fair go, lay off, Ive said multiple times I have an appointment.

Just remember adults do not need to take panadol or nurofen pre or post jab as this will lower the efficacy of the bodies reaction and acceptance of the vaccine. We want the anti-inflammatory response.

Can you cite anything to back this up please?

In all seriousness a paper published in June that has zero mention of Delta (B.1.617.2) is now very much out of date.

Delta has changed everything, and in recent weeks it's become very clear how different it is, and how some things we've assumed about immune responses to Covid with current vaccines may need to change as well.

As I wrote a lot about yesterday in here there are still experts who totally disagree about the effects of reduced levels of antibodies after 5-6 months and point out that T and B cell responses will protect us. There are now experts who pushed that view hard but have now changed their views, hence the reason a booster dose is clearly going to become very important.

Front line health staff should have already been vaccinated and if they haven't they have their own avenues to get it, hint they aren't mass vaccination centers.

@TeaLeaf:

You have an appointment, good.

In any case, no one is taking doses from frontline staff as vaccination is now open to anyone living in New Zealand.

For everyone else: people, please do not delay taking your vaccine if you find an appointment sooner rather than later. There are no excuses to not have the vaccine, unless you have a valid medical reason for not having it (and being a deluded anti-vaxxer is not a valid excuse).

There have been many official sources site the fact you shouldn't take ibruprofen due a belief it might impact the immune response. Panadol however is not a NSAID (and doesn't reduce imflammation) so doesn't react the same way. https://www.gskhealthpartner.com/en-sa/pain-relief/brands/panadol/covid19/ib-covid19-update/

Sounds like the long thread is causing a bit of confusion and people are missing things, and talking at cross purposes :(

msukiwi:Not a case of not wanting it, but not the easiest straight forward way to get it in a timely fashion.

@msukiwi - My flatmate had a similar issue to you - was not able to get a booking until October - I suggested she book for what she could on the day, but keep checking as earlier appointments do show up as things get re-arranged, more sites open up etc. She has now ended up with an appointment next week

The system will be in a state of flux, so things will change day to day. And as has also been mentioned some providers are not using the Gvt booking system, but their own, so maybe keep those on file to check as well. You can always cancel the bookings:)

Unfortunately there are only so many places each day, and some one will have to go last :(

TeaLeaf: Sounds like you are caught in a rock and hard place with not many sites north of Auckland being approved pre lockdown. Good on you for being willing to travel a good distance to get your injection :)

Based on the below, it looks like the govt may have received another million doses of the vaccine over the last couple of days.  They struck a deal with another country?

You missed this bit on the bottom of the graph

Production plan figures are the volumes agreed with DHBs and national providers for expected vaccinations. These figures have been matched with expected supply. Detailed plans are available in the Excel file at the bottom of this page.

The Stock received figures are the cumulative supply of doses to date.

Production plans for week ending 5 September onwards currently under review.

The line with the big spike is the volumes agreed with the DHBs - not the actual stock available

Although the statement of matching with expected supply does raise questions :)

Not to my (admittedly colour-blind) eyes they aren't. The dashed blue line is the production plan.

The projected cumulative stock received certainly seems to show an extra ~ million doses arriving this week.

This party is far from its conclusion.

https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2021/08/31/national/japan-confirms-first-case-new-type-delta-variant/

Are there updates for the vaccines to cope with the variants? I do wonder what the projections are long term. If NZ gets to 80 percent vaccination and we then get an outbreak, would NZ go into another lockdown or will they let it spread. But doing so risks creating new variants. I think they need a vaccine that actually stops it spreading.

I would say the current crop of vaccines is more of a stop gap until something that actually eradicates it is developed, whether that is another modified vaccine or an anti viral or some other from of something remains to be seen.

Yeah, blowing up the graph i think you are right - really bad choice of colours - MoH really need to work on their graphs. Also makes sense the volumes agreed would be more linear in growth

Downloaded the excel spreadsheet, but there is nothing in there for anything beyond 31st, so no help there

Hipkins has basically admitted today that they are close to sourcing extra vaccines

(from todays transcript)

Hon Chris Hipkins: Look, we are—I think it’s been well signalled—looking at seeing
whether there are things that we can do to increase the supply over the next few weeks
until we get the very large deliveries that we’re expecting in October.

If we’re in a position to—well, we will be in a position to provide greater clarity on that
before the end of the week, and we will certainly do that as soon as we’re in a position to do
that

The weekly update page has a separate graph for Vaccine available for distribution at week end that doesn't include stock in transit or held by vaccination centres. At week ending 29th was about 180,000.
