For starters, "living with the virus" is going to mean condemning a significant number of the vulnerable in our population to live in isolation - not much better than prison.  Otherwise the truth is far from "living with the virus" - but condemning the vulnerable to be "dying with the virus".

So what you’re saying here is that you would prefer large numbers of the population to be kept prisoners in their homes and in isolation, which is happening now with alert level 3 and 4. To prevent the small number of people ineligible or anti-vax from getting sick?

You would prefer the government to borrow $1 billion a week to keep the vast majority of businesses and people employed, because they are kept prisoners in their own homes to protect the small number of ineligible and anti-vax people?

We are getting close to the point where the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

Jesus, no one is a prisoner. No one is kept home to protect ineligible and anti-vax. We are being at home to protect everyone - including you. At the moment we don't have enough vaccinated people. Once we have it, things change. But some can't see it past their political mindset.

So, yes stop this damn politics in this thread - from this reply on anyone posting this bullshit gets locked out of this sub-forum. If you want to discuss this kind of things, go into  the Politics sub-forum

Mauricio, with all due respect.

The whole pandemic has been politicised by governments of all hues including ours. It's pretty hard to keep politics out of this thread. I doubt there's very few who have posted on this thread that haven't made a post at some time or other that has some form of political content.

Yes but do not continue in this thread. This is "health" not politics.

In addition to my previous reply, instead of editing it.

If people want to say they agree or disagree with lockdowns they can do it. What they can't do is using loaded words like "our citizens are prisoners" or "we live in a communist state".

One thing is to argue with valid ideas, another is to reply with fallacies coming out of political party newsletters, Facebook posts or a friend's emails.

Geektastic: I was somewhat astonished to read an article today in which a woman was quoted as saying she had been told - and had believed - that the Covid vaccination was "Satanic" and that's why she hadn't had it.

Just how do you deal with that?!

What do we make of today's 18 cases? Presumably that will drop off tomorrow off the back of lower Sunday testing, but it's hard to feel super optimistic this is heading in any firm direction.

Starting to get concerned that the longer this goes on, the more likely it is to get a foothold in the no test, no jab bits of our community who will also likely be pretty lax about lockdown rules.

Keep in mind we were warned of 50-60 cases to be expected from this not really admitting but are known about mixed groups during mid week.

This is inline (would explain all the known isolating), but potentially more regardless of testing numbers as some of them are obviously on a set schedule too.

Brian Tamaki says throw away the masks:

NZHerald: Brian Tamaki of the Destiny Church has used an online sermon to tell followers to "do away with the masks" and take a stand against a lockdown he describes as "home detention". Tamaki went live on social media with the video message this morning, using the sermon as an extended promotion for a nationwide protest planned for October 2.

Tamaki has previously stated he's not anti-vax and said it's his choice and he's not getting one.

There were only 4500 tests yesterday...it is dropping.   Why isn't Auckland doing more testing and going door to door in these suburbs where they have asked people be tested.

Why would anyone want to kill the very same people that throw money at them?

Covid fatigue I think. Which is bad, but expected after such a long lockdown.

Agreed except those who can't get the jab due to medical reasons, and young kids who can't get it at the present moment.

The number of people who cant get vaccinated due to medical reasons is tiny.  The only contraindication is anaphylaxis as a result of the first dose, or anaphylaxis to one of the vaccine components, which in effect would be. PEG. True PEG anaphylaxis is extremely rare, it is used in a large number of things people are in everyday contact with.

There may be reasons to delay shots due to inter current-illness, but given we have been vaccinating for ages now those people affected should be few and far between.  And I suspect most of them would be the people we should be vaccinating as a priority because catching covid on top of their current illness would put them at much higher risk of serious harm.

Hermit kingdom is a great description of us right now. We are not making the most of the advantage we've had.

What advantages are those? Hermit Kingdom is a stupid statement. But its the wrong thread
