- and even if you use what may be safe natural ingredients, the cooking processes creates conditions much like may be used in a chemical plant, new harmful compounds may be created, such as formation of acrylamide and glutaraldehyde in starchy food prepared with polyunsaturated oils, nitrosamine , HCA, and PAH formed from grilling meat.

Of course when something very commonly eaten and popular, like the bacon/processed meat example above in the thread, gets singled out because there's extremely good evidence that consuming it causes disease, people will bury their heads in the sand and continue to eat it anyway.  Einstein apparently used to go out and collect discarded cigarette butts from the street to smoke when his Dr confiscated his pipe.

If an ingredient can only be made in large chemical factory, then I tend to avoid it.

It's trivially possible to make dihydrogen monoxide in a chemical factory (from say, liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen, or by burning hydrocarbons). So you had better avoid water while you are at it.

Water is not ONLY made in a chemical factory.

So produce at home = safe?

Metamfetamin is safe by that logic...

Rikkitic -  what is your opinion on a vegetarian sausage?  Good for you because there is no meat.  Bad for you because it is more processed than a chicken nugget.

I don't understand vegetarian sausages.  Why the need to emulate meat?

Grill a courgette or carrot or .... there's your vegetarian sausage.

If fast food reduces fertility then why do I see so many large families at fast food places - did they start eating there too late in life?

OK - phew - I didn't want to have to read the paper, fortunately the answer is in the news report.

The risk of infertility went from 8% in the control, to 12% in the study group, so 88% of fast-food eaters remain fully fertile.

As for how that slight disadvantage could be overcome, look for correlations between wealth, education, social status, fast-food consumption, and birth rates.

I think it has to do with what we are used to. The texture and taste is something many people are used to and like, so why not emulate it when you don't want to eat meat.

America's favourite "Mexican restaurant":

Taco Bell has gained traction with innovative product offerings, by serving breakfast and creative selections like Mexican Crispy Chicken Pizza and the Naked Egg Taco. The brand rolled out limited edition Nacho Fries earlier this year, which was the most successful product launch in Taco Bell’s history.

So my 6 year old, 8 year old and I all had a Flu vaccine today. As a reward for being brave (me not them) we stopped at McD as my wife had to work. I usually can't stand being in a McD as the smell makes me feel slightly ill. I ended up with a sirachia angus burger which was surprisingly very nice! It had Onions, Gerkins, Egg, Lettuce, a nice enough beef moist pattie, and tomato. I'd suggest there would be a reasonable number of kids being fed a home feel tonight that wouldn't get that many vegetables! Whilst I don't condone this for dinner every night, I thought it was pretty tasty and didn't bear much resemblence of my memories of earlier McD's meals. I stand by my earlier comments that quite a few fast food places aren't actually too terrible. There is worse food you could feed your kids.
