Do the rights of those that choose to be vaccinated trump the rights of those that choose not to be?

During a global pandemic? Yes.

Do the unvaccinated positive cases shedding covid everywhere create extra costs to a business every time they have to shut up shop, deep clean, send staff home.

Who should pay?

It will take a bit of gumption for the various industries to stand up to the anti-vaxxers. They ofcourse will be pushing the "my body my choice and you can't force me to vaccinate" message, but their choice comes with potential consequences. They will cry out "we are being discriminated against", but is it really discrimination if their choices have put them in that position?

I get that by being vaccinated, we are somewhat protected against catching / spreading / suffering severe consequences of the virus, but the risk still isn't nil.

Do the rights of those that choose to be vaccinated trump the rights of those that choose not to be?

Maybe a car analogy? We know how good those are!

I choose to drive by the road rules, that is safer, and I wish to have other drivers around me doing the same. But if some drivers can make their own rules without penalty, that affects my safety. I still get the benefits of my safe driving, but why should I have to be exposed to others?

so it is illegal to drink and drive, yet people do drink and drive, and sometimes - boom. same with covid i guess.

so the overall answer, people do what they want and you can't stop them?

I mean... that's why they're crimes though.

true, though we've seen that covid related crimes - never really enforced, i think they want to improve compliance by not using fear and bully tactics.

as i pointed out earlier the vaccine mandate is to protect the vulnerable, not to stop endemic covid. i guess the same theme of improve compliance by not using fear and stamping authority.

ha i get it now - the approach has not changed from day one. asking people to comply without using fear and iron fist. that's why they do what they've been doing!

makes sense now.

To me I couldn't care less if a midwife, physio or tradie, home teacher was unvaccinated. If the price is right. Maybe they will undercut the vaccinated to get work.

Interesting position you've taken there.

On the other hand I won't be allowing unvaccinated people in my house. Whether they are tradies, contractors or former friends. Emphasis on former.

I said if road behaviour had no penalty. Covid no vaccine behavior has no penalty, thats the analogy

The penalty in both cases is death. It just doesn't happen to everyone every time, and the stupid and uninformed think it won't happen to them.

We don't have any kids.  All of mine and my wife's family are already double jabbed, because they're smart people.

158,000 eligible Aucklanders holding out on vax

I presume that is the leftover stats from the % done. But it's still kind of confronting. Holding out may not be the appropriate term.

So when your freezer breaks down on a weekend and your food is defrosting, you'll refuse the trade who is there to fix your power if not vaccinated or if he/she refuses to divulge their personal medical information?

Wild how I can replace the defrosted food I lose under insurance if I really want or just literally go to the supermarket, but I can't do that with immuno-compromised relatives.

Pretty easy choice when you can stop and think about it.
