What are they doing about getting through to these people?

Einstein's definition of insanity comes to mind. “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."

They need to change their approach. Get out in the community and directly target those that haven't been vaccinated. Knock on doors, go to work places, set up shop outside supermarkets or other places where pretty well everyone goes on a regular basis.

Placemakers did it last weekend here. https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/126840183/covid19-why-a-woman-in-one-of-nzs-worstvaccinated-areas-finally-got-the-jab

They netted more than the community one at the top of the article. (of which was focused on one person they attempted to convince previously - only actioned after the CHC cases news.. seeing a trend here)

That's exactly what needs to happen. A bit like "If the mountain won't come to Muhammad, then Muhammad must go to the mountain”

Forcing people into MIQ is a very draconian step - and it's pretty clear lots of people are objecting to this. Anectodal evidence is suggesting people aren't getting tested because they don't want to go into MIQ.

Because we all know how well self-isolation works:

Well as of yesterday we had 1753 active cases in NZ with 129 of those in managed isolation and 207 of those at home or in self isolation, so there is clearly faith in self isolation by the govt and MoH and it does seem to be working reasonably well

Edit: Just read the full table again rather than the headline - we don't list the location of 1362 of those cases

We kind of had to go with home isolation, Jetpark was getting full and there's the question of how you handle high-needs cases. Not everyone who ends up in MIQ is going to be super stoked to be there.

Retail NZ wanting us to skip a step and go to L3/Step 3, Hendy wants L4 'considered'... this is going to be a bit messy.

You missed one out.. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/covid-19-delta-outbreak-vaccinated-aucklanders-should-have-more-freedoms-says-des-gorman/ND2KL4ZMYTIXBH7VDBH62RRLTU/

He wants less. Because everyone is being held to ransom.

Then there's the increasing ones outside of AKL.. yes, it can happen outside the great wall.

The prediction comes as fresh details have emerged about a Waikato resident who tested positive for the virus and then left their house after being told they had Covid-19.

A Te Awamutu local went out visiting after receiving a phone call telling them they had tested positive for Covid, the Waikato DHB has confirmed.

He hadn't been advised of what to do at that point other than being positive, so still went out... Uhhhhm.

Microwave popcorn at the ready. We're going to need it.

They have been retasking other facilities to handle overflow

I think the idea is now we have MIQ for people who can't isolate at home, as opposed to the "you have Covid, you go to MIQ by default" we'd be working to previously.

Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield earlier this week saying the move was needed.

“Remembering that this is a part of our move to a highly-vaccinated response in a highly-vaccinated population,” he said.

Assessments are carried out to determine who's suitable for the model.

“That includes their heath, medical needs, as well as the social supports, the nature of others in the household that may be vulnerable.” Bloomfield said.

I would not be surprised if the European vaccination certificate work was failed on privacy.
Of course lowering degree of privacy for one data-point would make it soooo much easier.

The MIQ positive cases that escape MIQ, and also escape when home isolated.
These are a minority, however with something as infectious as delta, it suits virus well.

Gangs and Drugs cut across society, and then Evangelical/Pentecostal active non co-operation.
It must be very dispiriting for healthcare people trying to monitor them in case they go south.

Covid infection seems to be very similar for first few days to a week, and then may diverge.
Most go onto be ok, but a few go very bad suddenly later.
The miracle drugs have to be given at the right time too, there is such a thing as too late.

I expect wails of outrage if someone dies in home isolation due to limited monitoring.

I daresay some/many are in risk groups for having childhood heart damage they don't know about, then drugs and alcohol.
Jetpark are both trying to protect community and the people themselves from themselves.
With limited resource and staffing, its not exactly the most sought after work.

They may also be in physical danger from the few violent nutters they have to deal with.
Must be one of the crappiest, dangerous, thankless jobs around at the moment.

I would like to see the breakdown of that spending. Hipkins said it would be spent on vaccine buses etc. That's a lot of buses.

Given the demographic they're targeting it would be a better ROI to simply pay them good money to get jabbed imo.

I posted the same data just a few posts above - but it's largely meaningless when "other" is actually 1362 cases and the number of cases we're categorising is so small.

If anything it shows the positive cases aren't going to drop in any hurry. WIth that many isolating at home, comes more positives in the form of other members.

Yes. It does just show the change from 'MIQ' to 'Get well at home' particularly this past week, even though it is only part of the numbers.

Seems like kind of a high number for a Monday...

Does not bode well for 4pm.
