So, if the store is in the middle of the mall, and the only access is by entering the mall, the mall must have a process. So to me that means they need a guard to escort a shopper to and from the store. I cannot see any other way.

We had the chance to legislate the Game of Thrones 'Shame' bell system and we blew it :(

So, if the store is in the middle of the mall, and the only access is by entering the mall, the mall must have a process. So to me that means they need a guard to escort a shopper to and from the store. I cannot see any other way. Or maybe a myriad of gated walkways. The legislation should include "if practical", maybe it does elsewhere?  Im not a lawyer or legislation writer, but Id assume if the mall cannot provide access, then either the mall does not operate or the internal store does not operate?

I expect we will see fencing at Northlands (chc) and the entire area pass checked at the door as they are in a common area. McDonalds I think nationwide have also gone no pass no entry - drive through only. Or contactless takeaway. For a seated food court thats double trouble.

Only if the Mall decide to adopt vax passes...

They gain an advantage to ringfence their food court and requiring a vax pas as it frees food and hospo them from caps and spacing... BUT for general retail there is no advantage, ( standard spacing and caps remain)

The only time vax passes comes into play is to protect staff under H+S legislation....

Its going to be a wait and see I think... I've heard of no general retailer that will require passes (yet)

Vaccination
Number of first doses bumped for second day yesterday 7,856.
Gap between first and second does not seem to be widening significantly so people seem to be following through with second dose ?
Its a pity its not larger numbers, but with populations its 'run what ya brung'

...

We are approaching another worker mandate date. And a heap of workers are covered by this one. Remaining police & Military. All Hospo, All close contact business etc. Today (reported tomorrow) is the last day for affected workers to get vaccinated to continue to work uninterrupted.

Would expect a bit of a first dose spike from this.

Also we are seeing a lot of media attention on the vaccine pass system. Which must be motivating some people to get first doses, even if they will need to wait out the three weeks before getting access.

Last chance to get your first dose and be vaccinated by Christmas was also pushed a bit.

In terms of second does, the pending introduction of the vaccine pass will be driving a bit.

In terms of "pity it's not more" - yes of course, always more would be better, but we are doing great. We are at 93% of eligible with their first dose.

based on a 4.2m eligable population, we have less than 300k people remaining for first doses. 6k doses a day mon -sat + 3k on sunday clears 39k first doses a week. Or roughly a percentage point more of the eligible population every week.

If we can hold this pace for two more weeks, we will be at roughly 95% of eligible population with their first dose. An incrediable effort.

And in some areas its even more incredible,

Have a look at  first doses by local council, (I think its sheet 6)

Wellington City is now fewer than 4000 ppl without a vaccination, Dunedin around 3,500 and ChC 11,000-

So we move to the Traffic Light system tomorrow.

I am am honestly totally over separating out vaccination by race. Everyone in the country has had the opportunity to get vaccinated. In the early days it was quite difficult for rural people to get vaccinated, but here in the Wairarapa, every race apart from Maori, is in excess of 90% including Pacific Islanders. Why can't Maori take responsibility for their own inaction rather than putting the blame on everyone else. Maori in Masterton are actually urban rather than rural for the most, so no excuses apart from just can't be bothered.

As a result, legitimate activities under the Traffic Light system are being postponed such as Rhythm and Vines.

I know that some/many people here will take offense at this post, but TBH it's about time people took individual responsibility regardless of race. And if they are not vaccinated by now, by definition they are anti-vaxers.

Doesn't hospo/restaurant get automatic must use to trade?. Food court is at one end with it's own after hrs restaurant/movie entrance. Incl a McDonald's 'restaurant', who have taken up dine in pass, no pass drive through nationwide. Some dotted through the mall like counter coffee shops. Shops riverside also doing checked inside, not out the window too.

Riccarton is smack in middle. Only way I can see them trade under both schemes is offer takeaway only, no checks and no seating like the akl malls have been use to.
Sorry sir you took your takeaway, you can't sit down that's only for pass checked...

Just looked at McDonald's comments on facey. Lordy!

Complains about separation by race then rants about race.

If it was 'regardless of race', there would be no need to specify 'every race apart from Maori'. It is not about any race. It is about individuals. How about we do a racial anti-vax breakdown? Oh dear, many anti-vaxers are white European. It must be their race.

Maori were given inequitable access to the vaccines. The model was institutionally racist. The bulk of the Maori population qualified last for access. You should be complaining about that.

People should really find that unacceptable. It would never happen if it affected the Non Maori population. What would you say if white New Zealand were told we have come up with a system where most of you will get access last?

The regions with the lowest uptake also have Doctors who are antivaxxers telling their Maori patients not to get vaccinated (Northland two GPS, BOP GP).

Steve Bannons White supremacist movement have been outed by NBC for targeting indigenous New Zealand via the antivaxx movement. They are behind Brian Tamakis Antivaxx movement.Tamaki himself is a leech and a traitor to his own people, a sell out who exploits them with his evangelical American grift.

By leaving Maori last, the door was left open for these nefarious groups to ruthlessly target them via social media.

By ignoring the Maori health model where the Elders should have accompanied the youth to vaccine centers, a big opportunity was lost.

You do not separate indigenous groups by age if you want them to buy into health care. All things in indigenous societies are based on a clan system.

Multiple DHBs withheld funding from Maori health providers. Another disgraceful institutionally racist outcome.

Fortunately the Government look to have learned from these mistakes.

They sent a minister of health to visit all of the DHB heads personally and demand the release of funding to the Maori providers.

Maori providers received direct funding, cutting out the DHB hegemony of resources.

The Pediatric roll out will encourage Maori to come as a Whanau to vaccinate Children elders Aunts and Uncles, a well known essential approach to treating indigenous groups the world over.

You act like the Govt held the whole country back to give Maori a chance to catch up given the mechanisms that have institutionally deprived them.

In fact Maori are not being treated as a race by the traffic lights system, if that were true the whole country would be in red until Maori catch up and there would be hard borders to the most affected regions.

Instead we are going to just let it rip and she will be right, Maori are getting what's coming. You should be satisfied with that....but it is never enough is it?

Btw the Maori providers are doing beautifully, vaccine rates are climbing rappidly. Imagine if they had have been given a start on the start line at the outset.

Just keep swimming...

I thought the roll out was done by age groups.

How does that mean Maori were left until last?

Apparently not many are in the older groups now. And all teenagers who missed out and should have been front and centre. Nevermind some of the first to open walk in clinics in the north were open all of 3 days before being overloaded by touring jabbers and shut down that were meant to be the initial rollout to cover that.

Could have easily made the adjustment to filter that. But instead shut the doors *shrug*

The age distribution of Maori is substantially younger than the rest of the country.

Similar deal as the sub 65 year old age groups never catching the over 65's in the general population:

Also not that many Maori live in Auckland, so the Counties Manaku DHB prioritization would have missed that group.
