mclean:

I think that for most Food Control Plans in the food service industry, the emphasis is on hand-washing, not wearing gloves. And it's not washing per customer, it's after touching anything dirty, like face, hair, dirty clothes, rubbish, etc. Touching clean food or containers isn't generally seen as a risk.

As far as Covid goes, restaurant food service is a lottery. I know that's where I caught it, along with two others in the group I was with. I'd say if you're uneasy about other people touching your food/plates/utensils then stay away from restaurants and fast-food outlets.

No it's based on waste water results

I didn't read that, but rather it's based on daily numbers. HOWEVER the water testing trend is also declining

But it's more on average than the daily totals still. So yes, people are not reporting. But it appears to also mirror declining trends overall.

While Plank says there could be an element of this, detections of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater have also been decreasing “consistently” along with cases over the past month to six weeks.

Have had 2 people now mention they can predict the masks are gone next week as is iso length (like Australian just announced)

Unsure where it's coming from (are we due another review?) But it's sure what people are starting to think it seems.

I heard this week there is another review of the traffic light system in the next week or two. I can't find the exact date, but they'll make an announcement that there is going to be an announcement.

Personally, I feel it's time for masks to go, time for Test to Work and reduced isolation in the case of a positive test.

Masks, if everyone is doing it, are fine, but everywhere I go now where they *should* be being worn, I'd estimate about 40% aren't wearing them (including staff). I catch a ferry twice a day, most people wear them, but enough aren't (including for 'eating and drinking' - ie. a cup of water in front of them for 30 minutes) that you ask 'What's the point?'

It is about finding a balance. If they said no-one needs masks now, then case numbers will likely increase, so they need to work out if that is going to cause a higher load on the health system. Also many people are due for their next booster, including people under 50, but there has been no announcement I have seen about this. I wonder if they are considering not giving it to everyone under 50 to try and save money?

I understand that Antiviral drugs are helping to keep people out of hospital. But many people don't realize that our health system is currently very stretched and alot of people are having massive delays in operations etc. But the people making many of the decisions are often not affected by this.

I still see quite a few people wearing masks in Wellington, even on the streets. More than I saw when visiting Auckland a couple of weeks ago.

I'd say that 70% of people in Whangarei are still wearing masks at the supermarket. Far more than what I saw in Auckland a couple of weeks ago.

My daughter mentioned to me of Saturday, that she went to KFC here in Auckland and no one was wearing masks. She tested positive on Monday so we are all isolating.

Of course the people not wearing masks are probably not bothering to isolate either.

Almost no staff wear them here at Mitre10, even the "Masks must be worn" sign at the entrance has been taken down.

https://www.odt.co.nz/news/dunedin/health/mask-mandate-may-be-scrapped

The Government has proposed scrapping mask mandates in all but the most high-risk health settings, the Otago Daily Times can reveal.

Disability support providers are concerned about the impact of the proposed changes, and that rushed consultation could lead to the voices of disabled people not being properly heard.

An email sent to disability support providers by the Ministry of Disabled People this week asked for feedback within 24 hours on a proposal to "significantly narrow" where masks had to be worn.

The requirement for visitors to wear a mask would only extend to primary care, urgent care, hospitals, residential aged care and disability-related residential care.

Other health services such as dentists, physiotherapists, optometrists, audiologists, counselling, home-based care and clinical psychologists would become exempt.

There would continue to be no legal requirement for mask use for health-care workers, or patients, in all health service settings.

(only snipped the first part of the article)

Got looked at like a weirdo when I asked for a mask at Mitre 10 in Q-Town last week ( they usually have a bunch at the entry)  - staff had to dig out a box from behind the counter....

The mandate for general retain is toast ... whether they keep it for Public Transport is a toss-up, but at the current rate of decline, we will likely touch under 1000 daily cases this week,  ( was 1100 on Sunday)  I think it will go to ( OZ drops their internal flight masking on the 9th)

I'm also expecting the travel declaration to go, along with the double RAT requirement, maybe even the Vaxx requirement for visitors ( its already gone for kiwis)
