Bung:

If I drew a 150m circle around our place 4 people in last month have tested +ve. Youngest (50s?) had worst immediate symptoms, oldest (80) still not fit enough to leave house.

Left off my /s there.

Yep. Each new strain seems to see a bump. again.

100% coverage at the wastewater sites by the looks still. The variant graph takes off again after end of last year. With the latest pfizer taking care of up to jn.1 and it's kids I believe.

Covid went through my wife's office and got most people that work there. It's definitely still out there.

My last jab for it was middle of October last year. What's the latest recommendation for getting it these days? Still have to wait 6 months between jabs? Only get a jab if there's a new vaccine since your last one? How do I even know what sort is available now and what I last had?

6 months between shots.

I think each batch they buy has been updated to cover latest strains?

6 months between shots and batches are updated regularly. Check a few weeks before your due date to see whether there's an updated batch in the pipeline that it's worth waiting a bit longer for.

I don't have any special knowledge but I know from my own experience that six months is the minimum. It is all recorded and if you try earlier you will be refused. Official advice seems to be not to wait much beyond six months as the efficacy of the vaccine declines.

Yup - a few people in my office have had it and I was one of them.
Was out last week with Covid, but wasn't nearly as bad as the first time I had it. Still not feeling 100% a week or so on.

It may depend on where you go, two different local places have been pretty relaxed about dates, e.g. if I needed to travel overseas and want to get the booster bit short of six months before I left.

I was only one day out for my booster but the mobile clinic insisted they couldn't do it. The nurse even contacted the supervising physician and the answer was still no. That was then of course.

Pretty much by timing. Medsafe/pharmac announce the approval/change.

IE: The Comirnaty (JN.1) vaccine replaces the Comirnaty (XBB.1.5) vaccine. It will be available to New Zealanders from Monday 20 January 2025.

XBB.1.5 strain to be used in New Zealand from 7 March 2024

Fair enough too. Imagine the hullabaloo if you had carked it after getting the vaccine, and they had given it to you outside of the manufacturer's instructions...

Unless you catch it. Then I think the 6 months resets.. Although I don't know how they would know if you have had it or not. I am overdue for the jab, but have had covid it within the last 6 months.

Tell it to them. I argued long and hard since I came from out of town but they wouldn't be moved. This was quite a long time ago though.

This is appalling, I can't believe a former All Black would use a tragedy like this to push his own warped narrative.

Christie played for the Māori All Blacks and the All Blacks Sevens, but was forced into retirement due to severe post-concussion symptoms in 2018.

He is unable to work full time and his organisation skills have been impacted, as has his “emotional stability”.

That's blatantly obvious 🙄

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/566674/commission-of-inquiry-into-government-s-covid-19-response-wraps-up-first-session-of-hearings

The government's response to the coronavirus pandemic is being scruitinised by a Commission of Inquiry.

Steve Braunias takes a satirical (and hilarious) look at it - especially when Voices for Freedom tried to put their views (read: conspiracy theories) forward:

https://newsroom.co.nz/2025/07/12/the-secret-diary-of-the-royal-commission-inquiry-into-covid/

THURSDAY

We shall now hear from Voices for Freedom.

They signal they have very important information concerning the real figures of how many people died from Covid.

Data from the World Health Organisation shows there had been more than 7 million Covid-19 deaths reported as of 22 June this year. What the hell does the WHO know about anything, contend Voices for Freedom, who stand before the Inquiry in a fetching array of tinfoil hats.

Thank you for coming today. Are you nervous? Is that froth? We have run out of tissues. Mr Bridge had great need.

Please compose yourself as best you can. Down to business. Many thousands of people around the world died, particularly in that early period, but do you dispute that?

“No doubt there were, as there are every year with flus and things like that, and yes, it might have been a particularly bad instance of that.”

Thank you. Could someone please hand over a defibrillator? Or some heroin. I am losing the will to live.
