neb: This could also go into the "things that make you angry" thread: The neighbours went to take their grandson to get his shot this morning with his mum, and were met by a crowd of anti-vaxxers shouting and screaming at them, scaring the little kids. Among other things they were trying to tell them that "thousands of children have died from the vaccine you're about to receive", and later when an ambulance drove by (it was going to the gym at the nearby community centre where there'd been an accident) they told people that a girl had just died from the vaccine. She was still quite upset about they trauma they inflicted hours later.

Anti-vaxxers are with the worst of the lowest, comparable to racists and misogynists. Selfish useful idiots.

Got about 2-3hrs sleep last night. Made a mistake and the retorts sat with me all night causing anxiety+.

Tried to point out to someone who posted one of those 'it doesn't make sense' posts from an 'informed nurse'.
Along lines of in my entire time never have I seen the need for masks, for multiple follow up jabbing, segregation and those who are positive despite jab etc etc.

I was informative. Gave that the reason is generally due to people forgetting or questioning school science now. And because of socials and the internet.

Only to be shot down in flames and told by multiple people the numbers don't lie (didn't accept half of it was debunked cause it prob come from media who lie). And the science behind the vaccine's don't add up. All propaganda.

How good and popular must those are home phds be right...

Even tho the science I was referring to. Was cover the gaping holes in my body. I will be a lot less likely to be passing mucus on (but why do we need to be masked if.....). And even if it takes 40 jabs. If it offers more than 0 severity, not death, or passing it on etc. That is a way better risk factor than 0. But noooooooo. Clearly I got it all wrong. And should just spit on everyone and risk it all.

Kinda like sunscreen. You need to keep reapplying. I don't know whats in it. I may burn lots one day. I may not the next. But I still wear it combined with clothes and a hat to try lower the risk.

Got a vaccine-sceptic at work (he's been jabbed so won't call him a true AV-er): "Big pharma"...blah,blah,...."don't know what's going in your body"...blah, blah..." government can't tell me what to do"....blah,blah..."virus mutating, how many more jabs"...blah,blah.

I decided to employ some AV-er logic.

Me: "Are you vaccinated?"

Him: "Yes"

Me: "Have you had covid?"

Him: "No"

Me:  "See, it works"

😆

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

I suspect this was a case of 'we don't like your argument so we are going to attack you personally instead of engaging in the debate like proper adults should'?  If so, this was the reason I stopped engaging in healthy debate on popular social media platforms.  While I was entheusiastic about the discussion, it just was not worth the aggrivation.  Unfortunately if many people do this, it may result in online discussions missing out on a variety of opinions and experiences.

Weirdly, despite knowing nobody in NZ who has been infected, several of my colleagues in AU have contracted Covid.

One is now struggling with long-covid symptoms, while the others are working through various stages of the virus.

It's amazing how differently it affects people. One was VERY sick, the other not sick at all, really, while the other is now a long-termer with no sense of smell and heart issues, fatigue etc.

Guys in my case are all in Aus. Naturally as a result all knew someone who had hangovers worse. Ignore the case numbers, the elderly being taken out by it etc. All lies and should be life as normal without needing to jab etc etc.

These people are fanatics. You can't argue with them. It is like arguing with a religious nut. They are not interested in verifiable facts, just shouting louder to force their views on others. Trying to have a rational discussion with one is a waste of time.

As far as I can tell, most of the anti-vaxxers in my area (Eastern Bay of Plenty) are religious (Destiny, Impact, etc.. ) or drug damaged. Definitely can't reason with them ...and not just about Covid. Pretty much everything.

A quote from the documentary The Brainwashing of my Dad: "these people become remarkably fact-resistant". The phrase may be taken from a widely-read Baltimore Sun article about the pre-Trump GOP:

All that said, the biggest question here is not whether the GOP can transform itself, but whether it can even try. At this point, the Republicans are less a traditional political party than what disenchanted former GOP staffer Mike Lofgren has called an "apocalyptic cult." And cults are remarkably fact resistant. Cultists live in a reality of their own construction and, far from being chastened by it, they thrive on rejection.

Come visit Kaipara district ... we have anti-everything people here, a real good selection of loons!

Spark ran afoul of someone taking exception to cell site and then the CoW they dropped in Kaiwaka, we suspect they thought it was 5G and toppled it, so the town had no Spark coverage for a few weeks.  The local church seems to have convinced a big part of their flock that vaccines are unsafe and we have people painting big messages on the roads around Mangawhai about how the government is lying to us all and we should rise up.

Printed some QR posters for in-laws because they have builders coming to their house from this week... Also printed a couple of posters for our place (used before when hosting friends) so that couriers can scan (if they want).

I have a friend whose parents live in the area - they are on a large piece of rural land and are starting their own antivax Christian commune. Building houses for their like-minded nutter friends and family to inhabit.

It's only a matter of time before my friends are cut off from their family due to this.

have had some at my place for about 4 months now, and the only people who ever scanned them were my wife and i, and my parents. none of the tradies or couriers have bothered.

I have friends who live up that way, they said they were surrounded by a sea of unvaxxed nutcases. I get the feeling they avoid leaving their farm unnecessarily... spare a thought for those stuck up there.
