After walking down to my local pharmacy, as I was walking back home a police car passed me. They didn't stop to ask me what I was doing however.

I would hope that there isn't any 'extra income' for banks arising from all this. Surely the change in receipt of income is only a timing difference?

Inevitably the above two methods extend the loan as the interest due will accumulate against the original term and principal (and indeed the deferred interest will have interest applied to it). I applaud MileHighKiwi's sentiments but the second order effect is that the mortgagee will end up paying more over the life of the loan.

If it's being structured somehow that this isn't what happens I will be delighted

Yes but the lives saved by these actions will be a drop in the bucket relative to the tidal wave of cases that engulfs our system. You are talking 50 lives saved with a death toll of 50,000.

I like to think the lockdown is the 1st move in a multistaged approach to elimate COVID19 from our country. If the intent is to slow down the spread, then we might as well follow trumps advice & open ourselves up for business.

From what I understand our options are.
1) eliminate it or stamp it out
2) let it run its course.

The "slow down" option is fanciful rubbish. You just can't slow it down fast enough. All this option acheives is substantial economic damage while saving a negligible number of lives. Not to mention the eventual social upheaval as our society breaks down.

It will be sorted out. The PM said that there is no time to sort every issue out, they will do that on the fly, words to that effect. That better than taking two weeks to dot as many i's and cross the t's. Urgency and common sense will sort these details out

COVID-19 - current cases

Interesting details there. People affected in their teens and 20s. Their symptoms may not be as serious as the elderly but I think it still demonstrates to the overconfident youth that they are nonetheless susceptible.

Neighbour had firewood delivered this afternoon in Auckland.

Fairly sure this isn't an essential service (not yet anyway particularly in Auckland).
Any guidance on where to report this firewood delivery business?

So, if it's OK to walk say 1km to a park, what's the problem with driving say 8km to this same park if you live that bit further away? You are either able to leave home for a walk in a nearby park or not, I can't see why you can only walk to it and not drive to it. Perhaps someone can explain the Police's reasoning behind this?

This is all about crowd control. Once someone thinks they can drive to the local park, so will everyone else.

Everyone needs to be in the same ball park at 2 m separation. The PM may not have given the exact precise message but the police will understand and enforce.

I think its more about limiting the the distance the virus can travel. Driving 8km to a park could spread the virus to a whole new neighborhood.

Cause his just older than teen girl ignored his warnings and was out for a last hurrah party with a pooptonne of their mates and that they wouldn't get back home in time for midnight.

They have cancelled elective non cancer surgery at my dhb 10 days ago.

Running tutorials and simulations for care of covid patients in theatres.

No elective cardiac surgery frees icu beds instantly. Likewise freeing complex non cancer cases frees HDU beds.

But stopping elective surgery doesn't stop in multi trauma patients, critically ill medical patients and cardiac arrest patients from still needing icu beds.
