Is that everyone though? From what I heard from the meeting today, if people have plans and a place to go to self isolate, and aren't showing symptoms , then they will go into self isolation within a bubble of the person who picks them up from the airport.

Search on here for my post from safetravel. It describes the exact process including self isolation with police checks as well as what happens if the person doesn't have plans.

New Zealand is a net producer of food, we are a socialist country, and our borders are easy to isolate.

So I heard a really awful story today.

A recruiter called to tell me a job I was seeking was likely not to go forward. It was with an agricultural equipment company, and they are freezing all hires till Corona-virus level 1 is instituted. I wasn't shocked, or even disturbed by this.

The disturbing part of the story was he said he was on Cable Care Lane in Wellington Wednesday. He looked in the "Flight Center" /"Travel Money NZ" store. They had turned off all lights, and were sitting on the ground in a circle, drinking wine, looking very somber. Not hard to imagine their story telling.

I won't mind just to drive about 30 minutes around local and let the car alternator have a good charge the battery and then home. But police will stop and question you and will follow you, also people trying to be enforcer now. So no matter what you trying to do now people will judge at you.

Driving to the supermarket will help a bit. Disconnecting the battery might be an option as some have mentioned. Do you have a battery charger? You might find that a lot of the places that normally sell them are closed, but perhaps some of the service stations that are open can help.

Yesterday was a hard day professionally, and I wasn't even on the front lines. WFH is not exactly a cheery proposition either at the moment. Many people will be playing for keeps, with home offices that aren't quite set up, some trying to do impossible things to rescue businesses that won't see another dollar for a month.

I am determined to do my bit to make this work by following any and all instructions, but I wish I could tell people who don't think it matters that much how much it has already cost us.

They told me that I needed to wear Gloves and a face mask to go to the supermarket. I was pretty embarassed this morning when I got into the line and everyone was also wearing clothes! (not my joke)

It's the cats I'm worried about. My cat has been over at the neighbours lying on their (warm, asphalt) driveway, and the other neighbours' cat has been here stealing her food like he always does. Don't these animals know there's a war on?

I walked past a supermarket carpark at around 1.30 pm & it was barely quarter full of cars, no sign of a queue at the front entrance. So it seems people are getting the message. Very few cars on the road.

Good. Hopefully that's the end of the plague of city folk that have been leaving their postcode and pillaging rural supermarkets and dairies.

Generally older cars are better than modern car's. Most cars will last a month with no issues, although some models are worse that others, and some people will have batteries at the end of their lives.

In general 40 minutes of idling every two weeks will keep the battery topped off. Could do this weekly if you are worried.

My hybrid car model is men't to be one of the worst (very small 12V battery as the engine is started from the main traction battery pack). I don't have any concerns about only running it to the supermarket weekly. That said, I have a plug in battery charger to get me out of trouble if I have any issues.

Nissan leaf is one model that you need to be careful with. Needs to be left either unplugged or with the charge timer set due to a programming issue.

People also probably don't really want to watch or listen to NZ news , or the world news, or use social media like facebook, with all the negative stuff on that, if they are feeling stressed. I suspect some people may turn everything off for the next month and remain in their bubble. But I think it is still good to know what is going on, so it is difficult to avoid. Turning off news alerts on a phone may also help, as they are often bad news alerts about this.

Interesting details there. People affected in their teens and 20s. Their symptoms may not be as serious as the elderly but I think it still demonstrates to the overconfident youth that they are nonetheless susceptible.

As at ~3:40 pm, that link no longer has details of individual cases (age, gender, source of infection). Did yesterday (even though somewhat incomplete . Quite a few "Details to come").

Is there an alternative web page with the individual case info?

Not that I've been able to find. The individual DHBs may have some information on their sites, but my local DHB hasn't updated anything.
I'm a bit disappointed that seems to be the case.

Our neighbours cat seems to have decided to adopt us despite not feeding it, I think their kids being home all this week has made it lose it's mind.

This is an interesting case of this well known NZ born entertainer in Oz. Apparently tested positive 3 times with 3 different tests, but has no symptoms. I didn't thin it was even common to test positive if you don't show symptoms.
