frankv: Any medical device has to go through rigorous testing and approval. A patient needs to know that whatever they are connected to won't harm them. Doctors need to know that whatever they connect to their patients won't harm them.

That's during normal times when you can insist on having it done right. At the moment, we instead need it right now.

On the news a butchers in Naenae that is opening defiantly. Everyone is seen to use the same handle to open the door to walk in ... the shop owner being defiant saying that they doing their community a service ( or was it disservice ? )

The TRIPS agreement, via the Doha Declaration, specifically allows governments to override normal restrictions if it's necessary to protect public health.

The head of Premier Investments has accused Australia's landlords of "playing roulette" with the lives of shoppers, alleging Westfield owner Scentre took no action after Premier's staff were exposed to coronavirus-positive customers.

In a deepening of the longstanding stoush between the retailer's billionaire chairman Solomon Lew and landlords, chief executive Mark McInnes said the company had two incidents at Scentre's Carindale mall in Queensland where employees were exposed to the virus.

"We were made aware of these incidents by the affected customers themselves and the Queensland Health Department. We then notified Scentre, who to our knowledge took no steps to notify the other tenants, customers or the community of Carindale that positive COVID-19 cases had been shopping in the mall," Mr McInnes alleged.

"COVID-19 is a deadly virus and it is unacceptable for landlords to play roulette with the lives of retail employees and customers by not doing everything they can to protect them."

there was a short debate about masks earlier, according to some, masks seem to stop transmission. IF that's true then the main mode of transmission is droplets and not aerosol

Surely, if Elon Musk was able to secure 1500 ventilators for the USA, our Government, should be able to secure another 100?

In other news, we also have a massive and alarming shortage of regular flu vaccines.

But I noticed most people are wearing masks which potentially make them look more bleak, although masks in some countries have been the norm for some time as part of everyday life. When I was in Japan, many people had masks, as they don't want to spread any cold or sniffle they may have. That could be one reason why their rates aren't too bad.

I’m busy trying to imagine life after lockdown.

The list of things that you would potentially be unable to do is not insignificant. Further, if this lock down goes on for say 25 weeks or something, there’ll be barely a functioning business left in the land.

I’m increasingly unsure just how long we can actually keep this level of restriction in place and still have anything resembling what was there before left for us to pick up.

We're pretty screwed with this level of planning which has been there from the start, not that you'd know it from those who are constantly singing the government's praises because they have literally no clue how bad things are going to get.

I mean when you leave your border open to countries which have major outbreaks like Germany for an entire week... then claim you acted "first" and "early"... Yeah... I mean what they've done isn't too little, but its definitely too late.

Its fine to criticise but its pretty poor when you fail to put forward what you would have done. Please do so.

They are sourced from china. Hope they work better that their virus test kits.

I suggest watching the Bill Gates interview on what he believes should also be occurring if a country does a lockdown. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xe8fIjxicoo It relies on Testing Testing Testing, so we can work out who has it. There is also a new mail in self testing kit they have come up with. But I fear we are not going to be doing enough testing based on a lack of people doing the testing.
