Batman:

i think the entire hospital would have to be shut down surely, no covid precautions were taken?

Did you actually listen to the broadcast / press conference?

21 staff who may have been exposed have been isolated/quarantined. (italics because they didn't decide to do this after they read posts in this forum).

We can block users from posting in specific sub-forums - thus far I only use it to block some people to post in the Politics sub-forum (some people can't help themselves).

If you can't stop posting misinformation or memes here then you will find yourself blocked from posting in the Health sub-forum. This comes without a warning.

A reminder - TVNZ cuts the Q&A with PM/Director after while but you can follow live on the HealthNZ YouTube channel.

This is going off topic, but I'm not "crucifying" her, how ridiculous. But I certainly don't believe that a public figure who behaves so irresponsibly - and brags about it on Twitter - deserves to be NZer of the year.

Disagree it was irresponsible. Up until that point she had been pushing the message of social distancing - and at the restaurant she checked on their ways of implementing/managing this. Sure staying home is better but at that point we were not obligated to do so.

Shortly afterwards the messaging did change to an emphatic stay home, and as we all know, the entire country is now required to do this as much as possible.

In any case, people are allowed small lapses of judgement where they may not make 100% perfect calls, or indeed may make a call you yourself might not. We are human after all.

I have friends living in beach "hot spots" like Orewa and Kohimarama Bay and all are reporting people milling around or seemingly driving to the beaches. Bloody hell.

105.police.govt.nz

Its a piece of National service to report them on the 105 form. All it takes is 1, then multiple bubbles start.

If you're a member of a Neighbourhood Watch group, try contacting a few of your neighbours to see how they're doing during this event.

Tomorrows update will include Commissioner Mike Bush, so we can hear about actions taken or that they may ramp up for the stupid people out there.

Also PM will be back, focussing on meetings with supermarket chains CE's, re any issues, such as pricing.

if they are the surgeon type masks then they are only useful for people with the virus and stopping them coughing and sneezing on healthy people, they will not stop the virus from infecting healthy people , to many gaps.

I think this is misinformation.

Firstly, if a surgeon type mask stops 50% of droplets and/or aerosols when you breath in, you have halved your risk. If people are pre-symptomatic but infectious, then a surgeon’s mask helps protects everyone around those people.

Secondly: an N95 mask does not stop 100% of droplets/aerosols. They are often mis-fitted, they don’t fit some people, and even when fitted correctly they stop 95% of an aerosol of size x microns. An N95 mask reduces risk.

On the subject of masks, where can we buy them? Practically the only businesses still open are petrol stations, supermarkets and dairys. I got some sanding masks around here somewhere. Maybe I'll chuck one of those goddamned things on.

You can order them from Container Door. I've never bought any before, but the price seems reasonable when compared to some mentioned on this forum.

Please take the time to read the official advice on masks.

These people know more than we do so trust them

There are no conspiracies to down play their need by anyone

no misinformation is people believing that they are safe if they are wearing them, Every expert has said they are useless for stopping the virus and who cares if it stops 50% , it's the other 50% you should worry about

Common sense is not as common as you think.

$45 or 10 KN95s?

The only advantage I see for buying from container door is they might use a different mail carrier to get them faster but they are still charging over 2x what they cost right now on aliexpress in smaller quantities with no guarantee they can actually deliver on april 20th which is still during lockdown and probably without personal courier services operating. They are non essential and shouldn't be operating.

There is multiple evidence for asymptomatic positives; Iceland, South Korea, ...

So which official advice do we trust?

Our NZ 'experts' or those in China, South Korea, etc who have far more experience with use of masks by the public, and who have brought their COVID-19 cases largely under control.
