Nope - they were ageist and also uninformed as to the likely consequence of just "letting it take its course".

Perhaps people need to get their facts straight before "reasoning".

That includes "reasoning out" what we should be doing going forward, when facts are very slim - but new information which should influence how we make decisions *at the right time* is coming thick and fast.

People in South America once used reasoned thinking to sacrifice children on beaches to stop earthquakes. Presumably it had worked for a while in their past.

Not me. I don't know about anyone else. It will be upto the DHB's staffing requirements and other medical area's needing essential medical staffing requirements.

I did state I would prefer to do telemedicine triage due to my computer/program affinity.

Does anyone know who is running, staffing & equipment supplies etc, the testing stations - MoH or the DHB's ?

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Here's the Google definition of ageism for you: "prejudice or discrimination on the grounds of a person's age."

Best for you to understand the definitions of prejudice and discrimination beforehand too.

You're flogging a dead horse. However one characterises that person's posts, the underlying tone was that it was an appropriate moral trade off to consider risking older people seriously falling ill or dying just so younger people can enjoy some relatively trivial freedoms at this point in time. On any contemporary and mainstream moral framework, this is hard to defend and justify.

I guess that's right - but not sure of the presumptive cases - ie some may meet clinical diagnosis but waiting for test - or have tested (presumably false) negative and they're waiting for second test. So 49/3446 possibly.

- come home take them off with bare hands and dump them on the side table, kitchen bench etc
- don't wash your hands
- or leave them on and hug the kids and partner
- off out the next time with same unsanitized mask

OHMG it would be just like wearing a dirty nappy all day and every day

Maybe not a breeding ground as such (being viral rather than bacterial) but I've been out twice for shopping and the mask use I've noticed just seems like keeping a talismanic regularly handled/adjusted/removed salivary concentration sponge on your face. Often removed to talk when at closest proximity to others or to eat finger food. Unless you're in a situation like crowded public transport, it just seems like masks on average would be more often working against their intended purpose.

No, They tested 3446 yesterday, but the results would be what was returned yesterday from tests a few days prior? I think turnaround is 24 hours?. So the 71 is probably from tests 24 hours to 48 hours ago?

Good question though, we want to see the positives to test ratio. Foir examp,le if it was 71/3446 that tells us that mores test is not causing more positives, i.e. a reduction

That seems like a quick turnaround. They tested 3446 yesterday, thats anytime from say 8am to 8pm and all tests were completed and resulted? I thought it was at least 24 hours to get a result, and possibly some delay in transporting to the labs?

Mother in law was tested. Was told 2-4 days for the result. Probably includes about a day to get the samples to the lab as I don't think there is a lab processing the tests here.

One of the options on the covid health line is - do you want to report someone doing something they should not be? I rotfl'ed at this unexpected option. Wonder what it says if you press the button.

My first thought was along the lines of timewasters calling this line. In retrospect there could be serious cases and it's sensible to have an option for it. As an afterthought, it must be nice for the police to have a break from dealing with traffic incidents at this time. Now they get to explain epidemiology instead ; )

I would have thought disposable ones were best

I saw on TV someone handing out disposable masks before thy entered the shop, with their hands. What if the person handing them out had the virus on their hands?
