I wonder if that's what's happening in China?

I do wonder if that is why they had been in lockdown for so long? To make sure they actually eliminate and stamp out the virus, rather than just flatten the curve. Just doesn't seem to be much information about this side of things. IMO we need to stick with elimination and making sure we don't come out of lockdown too soon. The WHO has also just warned countries about not coming out of lockdown too soon.

China isn't in lockdown anymore. There are controls (masks and temperature screening is compulsory in workplaces) but China is back at work.

China is afraid for some reason, of getting a second wave of infections, they conveniently preemptively blame foreigners, and so xenophobia ensues

Saw that, not great. Have they got the infection again, so immunity doesn't work, or are their legacy remnants of the past infection that fool the test? Or did it re ignite? (In the game person)

It could be all sorts of things, false positives, false negatives, declared Covid19-free too soon, we just don't know enough at the moment.

People in China were tested a couple of weeks after they recovered and tested positive to the virus but they showed no symptoms and people in close contact with them never contracted the virus . we might find later that people test positive but are immune to the virus and cant pass it on .

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Multiple UK outlets are reporting undiagnosed deaths in age care homes. And saying diagnosed deaths are not in the official NHS count. It's not clear to me if that means not in the national count. Problems with supplies for aged care. Overall this is very concerning.

What a difference two months make. U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson in late January riled many Britons and Washington by allowing Chinese telecom firm Huawei to supply parts for British communications networks. Nine weeks and one global pandemic later, that deal and many others are in doubt.

British anger at Beijing’s deceitful handling of the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan has bubbled up in recent days. Senior minister Michael Gove on Sunday blamed Beijing for stymieing Britain’s response to the pandemic: “Some of the reporting from China was not clear about the scale, the nature, the infectiousness of this.”

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab on Monday called for a “lessons learned” review in answer to a reporter’s question about Chinese obstructionism. These public statements reinforce press reports over the weekend that government officials privately suggest China should face a “reckoning” after the health emergency has abated.

Skeptical voices are rising outside the administration, too. Iain Duncan Smith, a member of Parliament and former Conservative Party leader, cited Beijing’s coronavirus cover-up as the final straw that should prompt Britain to “rethink” its relationship with China. That argument won’t be a hard sell to many Conservatives. Mr. Johnson faced a rebellion by 38 of his own party members in Parliament who recently voted against his plan to allow Huawei to sell equipment to Britain.

That deal was supposed to advance the warmer economic ties with China that were a central plank of Mr. Johnson’s post-Brexit trade agenda. Beijing’s dangerous virus cover-up could scupper those plans by forcing British leaders to question whether an authoritarian China is a trustworthy economic partner.

There’s a lesson for both sides. Britons who voted for Brexit backed a vision of their country as a democratic, free-trading beacon for the rest of the world. There are dangers to deviating from that path solely for the sake of commercial gain.

As for Beijing, the repression of the Xi Jinping era is not winning China respect abroad. Instead, that repression and its sour fruits—whether Uighur detention camps or a clumsy attempt to diminish or conceal the risks of what has become a global pandemic—are cultivating global distrust of the Communist Party. The price that the regime pays in lost respect and economic opportunities may be large and unpredictable.

Just doing a comparison with what the normal death rate is in previous year, they should be able to get a fairly good idea of what the actual figure is.

The conclusion reached by the post doesn't match with the article.

Interestingly the article says that Germany and Italy calculate death rates the same way. Correlation isn't necessarily causation.

I haven't personally seen outright abuse but have definitely seen a bit of eye-rolling when essential workers are sent to the head of the queue. You really have to wonder how some people can have so little perspective -- significant numbers of people have reduced workloads or are likely to have fairly understanding employers who will be realistic about the likely output during such tough times, assuming we are talking about a workday for anyone. If you aren't working, you aren't going anywhere. Given all that, what's the problem with waiting a bit longer before you get to shop?
