I am appalled by the f-wits who try to flee the police. This is bad on every level, but I think it is also a reflection of declining respect for authority. I wish someone in some ministry somewhere would just say what the hell and authorise a gory campaign with lots of mangled wrecks and the following slogan: If you run, we will pursue you until you die!

Maybe that would penetrate a few thick skulls out there.

Fleeing the police is wrong, but it should be balanced with whether pursuit is in the public interest vs safety. The issue being that a car fleeing police will probably be moving much faster and less predictably than otherwise, this puts everyone else in danger too.

My opinion on this has changed significantly over the past 10 years.

You mean the ones who don't give a toss and likely wouldn't pay any attention?

Pursuit encourages fleeing, it's a base instinct. It's not logical and it can be overwhelming (At which point the chances you'll recall a gory tv campaign is low). Was the crime committed worth someone dying today?

The person who flees is at fault, I am not suggesting anything different, but it could have been so much worse, someone unrelated to this, could have ended up hurt. If they had this persons license plate (assuming not stolen) they eventually could have caught up with that person later.

It's not a very simple thing, but there is a balance to be struck.

It's off-topic and the last thing I'll say about it.

Masks , it is a bit of an endless debate.

I got a bit of a serve from SWMBO that my skills as a provider were somewhat lacking
Looking at our pitiful non brand name anemic mask collection. Focused on simple DIY protection.
Some harmony restored by finding plans for home made cloth and making a few with little suitable fabric we had, a win on its own.

I am still a bit reluctant, plus.
Wearing glasses and the shape of my face means I'm in danger of walking into things as glasses steam up, somewhat counterproductive.

In the end we don't have them, can't get them, seems no interest from central powers in creating significant local production.
No citizen groups buying mask making machines like Hong Kong to make our own, beyond existing small local boutique MFG.

It seems to come down to countries with large enough mask production recommend or mandate citizens use them, rest of don't.
Save the good stuff for the people who may save your life or life of a dear one.

There are some ideas to turbocharge Masks. Salt any viruses enemy ?

I think people put too much emphasis on the number of tests. As it stands, if an individual is crook and goes for a test, that will happen day in, day out.

What may be missing are the additional tests carried out on people identified as being at risk due close contact etc which is possibly/probably scaled down at the weekend. Yes these do throw up additional cases but I think today's numbers stand on their own.

The additional testing will really come into it's own at rooting out the asymptomatic cases on known contacts of confirmed cases and hopefully will scale up into more of a surveillance testing regime.

In the current climate the more tests you do it stands to reason the more infections or probable infections you will find. If you're doing fewer tests then it's highly probable that number is going to be less.

While today's number are very encouraging the true indication will be on Tuesday/Wednesday when the testing ramps up again.

Looks like motorcyclist has hit a civilian car. This is in Mt Roskill, Auckland about 20 mins ago.

He says white sheet now on road.

No, but we have had two days of lower testing now with Good Friday and now Saturday.

As stated, I think Weds will be a more normalised day.
