When the New Zealand borders reopen, maybe we should require proof of measles vaccination before entry from hotspot countries, including the US. Measles is unbelievably contagious. It's the world’s most contagious virus.

New York Times: Coronavirus concerns could lead to fewer measles vaccinations.

More than 100 million children could be at risk for measles because countries around the world are suspending national immunization programs in order to reduce the risk of coronavirus infection, international public health leaders warned on Monday.

Twenty-four low- and middle-income countries, including Mexico, Nigeria and Cambodia, have paused or postponed such programs, according to the Measles and Rubella Initiative.

In the United States and other wealthier countries, parents typically make appointments to follow a routine vaccine schedule at clinics or private pediatric offices. In poorer countries, however, large numbers of infants and children are inoculated in communal settings, like marketplaces, schools, churches and mosques.

There are also concerns about potential outbreaks in North America and Europe, which do not have national inoculation programs. Because of Covid-19 fears, American pediatric practices are beginning to report significant drops in well-child visits, including those for routine vaccines.

“Even in resource-rich settings there is a danger of measles raising its ugly head in the not-too-distant future,” said Dr. Beate Kampmann, director of the Vaccine Centre at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

In 2019, the United States reported 1,282 measles cases, its highest in more than 25 years.

It is probably linked in this thread already; but only allowing those who have respiratory issues to get tested for COVID-19 rather than those with any of the symptoms (like not being able to smell) seems to be a bit of an issue, especially when you have new cases in clutters that should have been well contained based on the original date of report.

I also feel that maybe COVID spreads a bit easier than reported; or otherwise we have a lot of people who don't follow basic hygiene requirements... Exactly how does a rest home get so many infections (and then death(s)) weeks into a lock down?

While I still have a job and income, I can see the economic reasons to try and get back to "normal" as soon as possible, but I strongly feel that ending the lock down on the 23rd is too early and another couple of weeks is needed to try and make sure we have actually got all the i's dotted and the t's crossed *if not two weeks, then after the long ANZAC weekend*

I wondered if there were overseas mirrored copies that were closer to the original but it looks like they've been edited as well, for example the SMH version shows "Updated April 14, 2020 — 1.57pm first published at 11.01am".

Seems rather dishonest to me, I mean "Edited to correct the spelling of Mr. Krznskcklnvrkrnvics name" is one thing but "Edited to say the opposite of what it originally said" is pretty dodgy.
