Paul1977: @hio77 experience was a little different to mine.

I'd developed a bit of a cough a few days ago, thought very unlikely to be Covid but did the right thing and called GP. They said they were testing anyone with any respiratory symptoms now, so said someone would phone me to tell me what testing centre to go to and what time.

Got a call not long after. The closest testing centre happened to be my GPs practice and that's where they sent me. They gave me a phone number and said to call the number from my car once I was in the parking lot.

Once I arrived I called the number and they said to wait in my car and they would call me back when they were ready for me. They called me back about 20 min later saying someone would meet me at the door where i could sanitise my hands and they would give me a mask. So I went to the entrance, and they let me in (they opened the automatic door from the inside so no-one can just walk in) i used some hand santiser and a Dr in full PPE gave me a mask and told me how to properly put it on and then escorted me to a private room.

The entire GP practice had been made up like Dexter's kill room, so they were taking appropriate measures on all fronts from what I could tell.

Went through a bunch of questions; checked breathing, oxygen levels, heart rate, temperature, etc. Then the nasal swab. I'll be honest, not the most pleasant experience, but over quickly - I wouldn't call it painful, just an unusual and uncomfortable sensation for a few seconds. Nothing that should put you off getting tested.

Hand santiser again and instructions to stay fully isolated until you get results, and then even if negative stay isolated until 48 hours after symptoms stop.

At no point throughout the entire time was I anywhere near anyone else except for the one doctor in PPE.

Got text message about 24 hours later with a negative result.

I found the entire process very good.

That sounds very concerning to me. If a person before you was positive then everything in there should be considered contaminated. The floor, the door handles, the seat, everything. That means that all your skin, clothing and shoes should be considered cross contaminated. Did you take set of clothing and shoes to change into after leaving the clinic? Did you sanitise your hands after leaving (and again after changing clothes)? It would not be good if you were negative, only to catch it while being tested. You would get a negative result in a few days and think you are ok but actually have the virus.

you see even in lockdown people are meeting - during essential activity, and people breaking bubble intentionally or unintentionally

we don't seem to get info on these new cases like we did at the start - how did they get them? where the contacts are?

In the beginning, it was all about cases. Now in Level 3, new case numbers aren't relevant, its about the new case numbers that are not linked to any existing situations. If we had 20 cases and all were linked to 3 rest homes, thats a win. As the CT, community transmission and no idea how, is zero. Im hoping that the cases revealed in Level 3 will focus on CT and exact location. Something along the lines of 2 CT were found in Hornby, ChCh. And updates if they found how possibly they contracted (maybe each case had 3 common shops they went to, etc) And what extra testing is being done in Hornby, ChCh. That type of thing. That CT info needs to be front and centre.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Nice news. 15 cases, 11 of which are from the 16 known clusters. I missed some of the comment on CT but it sounded good what I did hear. 300 tested at a Queenstown supermarket

basically the same as yesterday with a thousand or so more tests

I missed the updated CT numbers, was roughly 2% yesterday and +4 today that were previously under investigation? That may not be encouraging.

My generic response would be that the government has a pile of experts to sort it out and leaders to make the appropriate decision (obligatory dig at the country that doesn't have that). That's what they're there for, it's their job to worry about it for us and make the hard choices. I'll just await their decision(s), they may not be perfect in hindsight but it'll be good enough, and one less thing for me to worry about.

Batman: Zoo needs to save money or save animals?

If I might speak for a mature animal rights activist, zoos are an unnatural invention.

So as long as zoos exist, humans have to make hard decisions: save biologically important animals. The killing list should definitely ignore their "cuteness".

A study shows these is that animals with these characteristics are consider "cute"

Active
Easy to see
Intelligent
Bright colours
Ability to hold objects
Furry

While these characteristics are not popular

Smelly
Slimy
Bites or stings
Bald/little hair
Venomous/poisonous

So a zoo will naturally gravitate toward animals such as tigers, parrots and chimps.

Have you noticed most zoos don't have than lesser anteaters, South American bush dogs (the only living species in the genus Speothos), spider monkeys? These animals stink, literally. You can smell a lesser anteaters from 50 meters, and the bush dog is called the vinegar dog for good reason.

So if an economic downturn due to the corona virus means zoos are asking to kill animals so others can survive, as long as their "cuteness" doesn't play a role, I'm OK with it.

Yep, he also mentioned that other Under investigations mainly came back as travel, clusters etc, which is a positive. The days between tests taken and results sees to be a mix of the day before yesterday and yesterday. That was noted a couple of days ago.
