Iceland has done quite badly,

I think Iceland has done pretty good, considering very high (almost 20x NZ cases on a population basis) and low average age of cases (thus high probability of infectious mild or near asymptomatic cases).  Then also with small population they have fewer resources.

It was the fact that they got to almost 20x NZ cases per capita that I considered bad. But I think the disease arrived there quite early, so less was known about how to stop it. Certainly their response in avoiding deaths was good.

Maybe countries in the northern latitudes do better at controlling covid-19 because they're already used to and accepting of being housebound for at least days at a time during winter storms. So, relatively speaking, a lockdown for covid-19 (even if it is springtime) is less strange than in more temperate climes.

Hopefully it should result in all of those involved in quarantine procedures taking things a bit more seriously, given things appear to have been getting a little lax recently....

I would like to know that people takes inbound passenger quarantine seriously seeing it's the only way for this virus to come in now.

But there are idiots everywhere.

Pardon my French. Fuck you people who think they deserve special dispensation.

Fuck you whoever gave the special dispensation.

Where they caught while in quarantine? Where they required to be in quarantine? Did they attend the funeral? If yes, are we going to see a "funeral cluster" now?

I'm really pissed off about these people from the UK allowed to come in for a funeral.

UK is an active virus spot... when NZ was like this, the government didn't even let people see dying loved ones.

Why were NZ authorities so cruel to our own, yet then so casually let people travel in from overseas to attend funerals?

I'm guessing those questions and more are going to be asked at 3pm, when Dr Bloomfield fronts the media...

Landed here on 7th June. "Compassionate grounds" to attend a funeral" so travel by car to Wellington on the 13th June.

The flight was UK - Doha - Brisbane - Auckland.

Tested yesterday. Positive today.

"In retrospect one of them had mild symptoms".

"Mild symptoms"? What happened to "If you don't feel well get tested?"

Not good. Not good enough.

I had a mild sore throat and went straight to testing and all worried for two days. My wife had a sore throat last week, in Wellington after weeks of no cases and she was tested - even missed work yesterday.

And a person coming from the UK with "mild symptoms" was let out?

There are idiots everywhere.

What a complete fustercluck. How did they get from Auckland to Wellington without using public facilities? Who managed their isolation on the journey and at the funeral?

Pity we can't quarantine on the port side so it doesn't up our numbers :)

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.

This is absurd. How can you allow a multi-leg flight passenger to arrive at a border closed due to a pandemic?

Have there been any other lapses in the quarantine that could have allowed them to infect others?

Until recently, they were allowed to go on escorted walks and mix with the general public. This is exceptionally poor.

Well our family of five have colds, went to get tested at a community centre and were refused. Went to the doctor and again refused.

My wife finally got tested by another doctor who thought she should be, because of her job. But yet the rest of us weren’t tested.
