GV27:

I'm extremely done with this:

1 NEWS can reveal guests who stayed at the same hotel as the two positive Covid-19 cases from the UK were flown to Christchurch part-way through their isolation without being tested.

Guests from the South Island staying at the Ellerslie Novotel received a letter from quarantine officials on June 13 inviting them on a flight down to Christchurch to a new isolation facility so they could be "closer to home".

One man 1 NEWS had spoken to arrived at the Ellerslie hotel on June 9 and had been identified as a contact of the women who tested positive. He was in the same facility as the women for five days, but said he wasn't tested before the flight and had to ask to be tested on his eighth day of isolation.

https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-zealand/man-identified-contact-women-uk-covid-19-flown-christchurch-during-isolation-without-being-tested   If we end up with a second CT outbreak then you'd have to wonder at what point does MOH become culpable through negligence.

That was on todays video that I just re watched to see all of it. AKL hotels are at full capacity so SI people were flown to ChCh. The team that looks after all managed isolation, i.e.e Mike Bush, managed the flight. All people in managed isolation are in isolation, they get tested day 3 and 12. The flight down was managed re disabling PPE etc. It could well have been a number of buses taking people from a hotel to another hotel. If they were transported correctly with distancing and PPE there should be no issue. You'd need to see what Mike Bush says about it, I assume and hope he fronts up, as he managed all if these hotels and what with them, bar testing.

You can't get CT of all these people remain in managed isolation. Thats the point of it.

JaseNZ:

its prettys much been a complete FUBAR , Better sort it out and get it right pretty damn quick. Defence being bought in is good will (should) put some discipline in place.

Let me get this straight -

The MOH runs testing - and whatever they did, didn't find any cases (?didn't test people in quarantine)

The Police runs the quarantine - and whatever they did, people were not actually in quarantine and mingling was widespread, random people could check into isolation

The MPs run the compassionate exemptions - MP's letter hold weight of getting more compassion

Now we get the Army to take over which bit?

I don't know if anybody knows what's going on up there ... who runs the show?

1. Tests are day 3 and 12 and before you leave.

2. Mike Bush leads and manages all managed isolation. Any issues there re mingling, is on him. Now the Military are in although I believe they report to MB

3. Link? Or media thing you embellished?

4. Military not Army. yes I thought they are taking over, not sure now, as todays video said that Air Commodore Digby reports to Make Bush. I think the Military are evaluating managed isolation, they may well take over later perhaps.

Who runs the show? My feel is, and anyone feel free to correct me

MoH runs the virus strategy and health care scenario, recommends to Govt what to do, then does it

Mike Bush runs managed isolation. Except any health care such as testing in hotels is MoH

MoH and the Govt decided the protocols for managed isolation, Mike Bush carries it out

Compassionate leave is MoH

Notwithstanding that there must be a lot of communication between all of the people involved even though one area may be the owner

Todays video is worth a watch even at 43 minutes.

The only way to have no more active cases and have zero cases forever is to ban all incoming flights, not allow any citizen coming back into the country at all unless there vaccine available. Will be the cheapest & most harsh way without spending more on taxpayer money on all those isolation accommodation/foods for quarantines. Pretty sure PM won't allow that happen.

When NZ active cases back up to 100+, a lot of voters might changed their minds & vote differently. With election just around the corner, PM must be getting nervous now, have to deal with the economy and covid. They can't make any mistake or else may need minority party to govern again. Since they are riding high in those research polling and able to govern alone. If PM really want to win, should just brought forward the election and win now, before start letting citizen back into the country, so any active cases that let in and economy collapse they still have 3 more years govern. All politicians in any parties have their own interest to secure their jobs no matter what tactics they have to use to win the election. Most politicians going to use this covid & economy to try to win the election now.

Economy wise, won't be mad if lose my job to covid because that's the reality now. Boss hinting that might close NZ head office and willing to use his own money to give everyone extra 3 months pay if decide to close down. He stuck in Asia right now and has no intention coming back to NZ right now because of the 14 days quarantine rules. He pretty much put all his resources focus in his Asia business. The country he in has strict lockdown, there still have cases everyday and still have hundreds active cases but the Asia head office business is far more stable compare to NZ business.

Since the "watertight" borders were brought in, 19000 have passed through. No local cases in NZ in weeks. Contact tracing is at leak levels. 3 cases from a plane this week. About 3000 are in managed isolation at any point in time.

Its still working

As Trump would say, no testing means no cases. Have we really been testing as much as thought we were testing?

Would have to agree that it seems what we are told is happening isn't actually happening at all.

The new rules that were brought in on the 8th are not being applied and who knows what has been happening during Level 2/3/4 at these hotels.

Not when people aren't being tested and not when Spinmaster-General himself doesn't know how many of the travelers weren't tested.

There needs to be an inquiry on this and Bloomfield needs to be fired now, if nothing else to demonstrate that there has to be accountability and consequences. Any MoH staffer suspected to be negligent should be suspended and then fired if proven to be negligent. At a minimum the government should damn well try their level best to fire each and every one who has been negligent throughout this process, even at the risk of personal grievance cases.

Person staying in the same hotel as the two women showing symptoms

And note further the description by people near the hotel of those in isolation come into contact with others. At some point, you would have to be a conspiracy theorist to believe that this is all a beat up against the disgracefully in competent MoH and the Spinmaster-General.

Get ready for level 3.

Oh Lord.

https://twitter.com/CheckpointRNZ/status/1273502894273134592

#LATEST: It's been revealed the military official who was yesterday announced as the new head of NZ border controls has in fact been in charge of isolation facilities & repatriation for at least the past month...

Part of me wonders whether Bloomfield is not getting the full story. I find it far more likely that others around him are playing political games and he might not be getting the full picture. His frustration seems quite genuine compared to some others.

You're suggesting we don't test many incoming travellers? Its hard to imagine that. We have test sites in the 'burbs but we dont feel its necessary at a 14 day facility?

I'd say most are from Oz, and reading here tells me they have done better than NZ. The three this week are UK and Pakistan. Still, I would have thought we would get a few. Unsure how many not from Oz come in these days. No CT has appeared, so it doesn't appear that any leaks have occurred.

A guest at the Auckland isolation hotel where two coronavirus-carrying women stayed has been moved to quarantine after developing Covid-19 symptoms.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/300037658/coronavirus-auckland-novotel-guest-has-covid-symptoms-after-pair-test-positive

This is heading toward a multi-billion dollar shambles to stop and reset.

Our quarantine procedures are looking like a joke.

(edit) - if we haven't managed to isolate quarantined arrivals from each other, and this case is contagion from one infected arrival to another, then we may as well not bother quarantining anybody - we're wasting out time.

The story is looking much bigger than the stupid case of "Thelma and Disease" and their incredible road trip.

So you would fire Bloomfield now, then have an inquiry? Surprising.

There does need to be a full dress down on who does what. What about all the managed isolation mingling issues we read here on every second post? Thats Mike Bush, but AG gets the hammer. Im all for finding out what and who caused these issues, whether its a first year nurse or the AG, or Mike Bush, it doesn't matter.. But I'd prefer to find out first then take action.

The MoH's culture is utterly broken. The litany of mistakes and lying isn't acceptable. Firing Bloomfield sends the necessary message that these self-annointed kings/queens of the world are none of that and should actually start doing their jobs or risk losing it all. Frankly, some of them should be grateful that they are still living and free -- in plenty of countries the latter would be improbable and the former distinctly at risk after this level of balls up.

Didn't see your post before posting the same link.

I'd also wager that in addition to MoH failures, using "private security firms' security guards" and "regular hotel management" to run quarantine centres is a very dumb idea.

Yes - lets see for a couple of days - maybe level 3, or just let it rip and kill and maim a massive number of people - because it was too hard for the authorities to understand what almost everybody posting to this forum has known since day one.

Its classic cluster behaviour? The issue is yes, quarantine procedures. Thats The Police, not MoH. Mike Bush leads this, there is supposed to be separation, and so on. Quarantine is supposed to be Level 4 at a hotel, clearly it isnt. It does sort of prove we haven't imported any cases from the last few weeks from the border, no CT here, but IF we import a case, we potentially infect the managed facilties. The AC that has been brought in, is already involved with this project according to GV which isnt positive. The frustrating thing is that there are 5 million who know all about Level 4 that can instruct the Police on what to do....
