Good decision. Will be interesting to find out how border security/customs will be managed. Presumably will need completely separate streams for people from 'bubble' and 'non-bubble' countries. This will provide an opportunity to iron out bugs before future bubble extensions to larger markets (assuming NSW and Victoria get themselves sorted!). Could route via Hamilton, Wellington and/or Christchurch but probably unlikely given the large numbers of CI citizens & descendants in Auckland. For the Cooks, could possibly establish a small customs unit at the domestic terminal though probably better that whatever arrangement is used is scalable; ie. use this as a prototype.

If we use AKL International terminal it will be a mess
For reference of how it may look at present going into these schemes, For arrivals at least - unsure on departures. I was walking around CHC airport yesterday, timed about when the Singapore flight was due.
Somewhat of a military precision exercise it seems.
I was prevented from walking near the common (outside) walkways, sent down the side of Novotel (a temp facility as it is). While busses arrived with drivers in protective gear. There was army, police, immigration staff behind coned/roped off areas (outside) - awaiting a side door where trolleys are normally taken directly into the arrivals lounge bag pickup area/behind the customs kiosks. While security kept a virtual barrier from those staff.
So it would appear they may not get exposed to the terminal/genpop areas. But likely rather shuttled down a restricted path from the plane. Through customs gates. Get their bags. Get checked. And fired out the door into free space ready for busses to receive.
According to Stuff, the announcement will be on hold for a week for the arrangements to be finalised. Presumably will be a short lag after any announcement before the borders open.

I guess, but we know how locked down hotels go, how will hundreds of free people go? If the aircarft disembarked at AKL regional terminal, no need to bother with any of that, as everyone is in the same bubble, just get the passport and biosecurity stuff setup
Wander4821: Apparently sitting in a hotel with free Wi-Fi for two weeks is as bad as Guantanamo Bay: https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2020/07/covid-19-us-author-alex-berenson-says-new-zealand-putting-returnees-into-indefinite-confinement.html
Guess this wingnut has never seen an ICE detention facility.
Yes, well when I read the original Newshub article it did seem to be open to mis-interpretation. Not well written.
Article apparently updated to "make it clearer to those reading from overseas that Kiwis will not be put in indefinite detention".
NZ was always going to be at risk of criticism by "just the 'flu" pro-business and conservative lobby. Start with a lie - that it's "just the flu" - and you've committed to continuing the lie. They'll be cheering loudly if NZ containment/elimination fails. Articles in foreign media critical of their own country's response almost routinely place NZ on a pedestal - many of their readers wouldn't be able to place NZ on a map, but express strong opinions.
Sorry for once again "politics" but political polarisation and the effect of these attitudes on "group behaviour" can't be separated from epidemiology. Politicised idiots in the US are having "covid parties".

Latest report suggests this will not be quite so soon. Ardern does seem very hesitant on any Pacific bubble. With no local cases in NZ for more than 7 weeks it is hard to see what the real issue is if CI are willing and keen. The risks seem very low at this point and it was stated that the borders would re-close if there was any recurrence of community transmission in NZ. Have to wonder whether AU bubble considerations are playing into the reluctance to open up with the CI and other PI countries that are free of the virus.

you still have to work out how to keep everyone separate coming into Auckland, the people that dont have to isolate and the people that do, customs, immigration etc . To be really safe you would need different facilities for both.
Common sense is not as common as you think.

Set up the CI flights in and out of Ardmore :)
I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.

I think to is possibly due to what has happened in Oz with the virus apparently escaping from their isolation hotels being a major contributing factor in their outbreak. So IMO we do pose a risk to the CI at the moment, until we can be assured there are no further leaks in our watertight borders, and no local cases have resulted. We also aren't doing enough local testing, and this was again highlighted by the Minister of Heath today. I am not sure why the number has not improved much since he highlighted the problem last week. It is just false economy not to at least do random sampling in at least the higher risk areas including contacts of workers involved. Testing is the key.
It is interesting how many people I have spoken to who are prepared to do a few weeks quarantine on return, in exchange to being able to go overseas to Europe or the UK, where they don't need to do any quarantine if they come from NZ. Although I am not so sure they would be so keen if the had to pay for that 2 week quarantine period in a hotel upon return. or if we have the quantity of hotels to cope with people doing this.

Ok, we can direct all travel bubble economic woes to you them! :-) It would also appear that an Australia bubble would be a huge amount of time away?

Like they announced they've started to do yesterday...
