Wait for the first positives in Queenstown or the Coromandel before we start ascribing blame to idiot Aucklanders fleeing to baches or holiday homes.

Seemed so - he clarified the situation later though.

Hipkins is a curious character - but he seems to be on top of things, he's dealing with the press confidently and quite concisely IMO.

He is good. Boring, stable and factual, thats all we want. No fluff, just the facts.

Its poor form for someone to blame a location, it just creates division. Covidiots exist from Northland to Bluff as well as the other 190 countries out there

If its confirmed the case in hospital has no link to the south auckland cluster I assume that increases the likelihood of level 4?

Weather they/we 'got away with it' or not.(this time)

They are still @#$&% Idiots & need to be apsolutely condemned and ostracized.....

They purposefully performed actions which were incredibly high risk of spreading this pandemic & killing people.

This is a really good read , re another aspect of ruby princess disaster .
Qantas and Virgin knew the Ruby Princess was a coronavirus time bomb but were powerless to stop it
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-08-14/border-force-ruby-princess-qantas-virgin-manifest-coronavirus/12550558

""
But Border Force told Virgin it could not share information from the Ruby Princess passenger list for reasons of privacy.
""
The Department of Health told Qantas it could not have the manifest due to privacy reasons
""

Interesting thing was the level of effort that the Airlines and Aircrew took to try to protect their passengers , ultimately foiled by officials.
Not the cold take the money and run some might expect.

Edit I type therefore I typo

Maybe not, as its just one case, that is "probably" linked even though we cannot verify it yet. All are in isolation, so these 48 cases are not in circulation now, and hopefuly most of the other yet not tested cases in the community are isolating. I think L3 will stay at the moment. Whats happening is  expected and there is no CT apart the first case yet. If there was one CT today, it doenst make much difference. If however it's one per day popping up all over the city at any random locations that's a different matter that has to be L4

Yes, perhaps we could paint a symbol on people from a certain region? First small steps.......

So they're doing genome testing on retained samples from positive cases picked up in quarantine in attempt to match with the virus in the cluster.  So far no match found, but if and when there is a match, then you've probably found the index case.  If you don't find a match after testing all samples, then that strengthens the case that the virus got in through an undectected case through quarantine, or on contaminated chilled/frozen cargo.

I am starting to become pessimistic now.

I am beginning to think the world, therefore us in Team New Zealand are just going to have to live with this very virulent virus from now on. 102 days was too good to be true - unfortunately.

If New Zealand is going to keep this virus out of the country then NZ is going to have to shut our borders. We simply can not keep REACTING. We have to be 100% PROACTIVE. But if this latest CT episode/s has been caused by Fomites transmission then we are in deep S**T.

Unfortunately, I believe, we will never have the success with COVID-19 as we have had with Smallpox. This virus will adapt and will mutate. Especially when we have a vaccine. It will learn and change. We are then at the same state as we are now in with the Flu vaccine. Each year the scientists will study the latest variant and bring out a slightly different vaccine and the vulnerable will all queue up at the GP’s for their yearly vaccination.

We can not keep jumping in and out of various levels of Lock Down. It will just wreck our economy and all the economies of all the world.

We will just have to learn to live with this virus, just as we have learnt to live with the Flu and the common cold.

So how do we learn to live with it. First off we have to take into account all the selfish people and all the conspiracy theorists. But we might be lucky there as they may start to DIE off, literally. Next if all the countries in the world just spent a tiny fraction of the money they spent on Defence budgets we might have a fighting chance against this virus. Next we have to start changing our social habits. We are by nature a communal animal. So we are going to have to learn to live and interact in smaller groups. What that number would be, I don’t know. The wearing of facial coverings may well have to be the ‘de rigueur’ for decades to come outside of the home bubble.

AND just maybe in a generation we might see innate immunity starting with the C-19 babies now. Who knows.
We may see a huge genome breakthrough just as we are now beginning to see with the CF disease.

I’m being optimistic now.

Either way for the foreseeable future we are just going to have to suck it up, stop being selfish and learn to live in harmony with each other and Mother Nature and one of her nasties.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Its spread all the way out to Torbay (Nth Shore) now (Glamorgan School) . I saw FB rumours of Glamorgan School last night but didnt see reports of that untill today

So pretty much one end of Ak to the other , not just Sth Ak .
The cats out of the bag.

But its still traceable to the south auckland cluster nothing to worry about here! /s

Actually, if it is traceable to the South Auckland cluster then this does make it a lot less to worry about. If they cannot find a link then we potentially have a much larger issue on our hands. Obviously any new case, transmitted any way, is a bad thing - but surely you can see traceable cases are a much less worrying proposition.

About 10% of covid patients need hospitalisation, I think. So one patient unconnected to the cluster who arrives at a hospital means 9 covid-positive people at large in the community.

Stop right there. As long as QAnon-style madness and other similar crap continues to spread, there is no reason to feel anything other than pessimistic.

I have heard from a close friend who works for a National long haul trucking company that tonight's 5:30pm announcement will indeed be Level 4 for Auckland City. They have to prepare paperwork for all their drivers that are transporting essential items through the city borders.

I hope its not true but it won't be surprising if it is.

Considering the language used earlier by Hipkins that L4 wasn't in the frame presently, it would indeed be pretty unlikely.

Cabinet hasn't met yet, that meeting starts at 3pm.

I think these sorts of comments are bound to cause anxiety unnecessarily.
