Hi There!

I am contemplating setting up some form of recording to improve my squash. I am thinking that 60fps @ 720p isn't quite going to cut it considering the ball can move across the court in well under a second, but I see cameras like the Go Pro Hero 4 support higher frame rates at 1080p which makes it ideal I think especially since cost may be a factor.

Is there a calculator or easy method to work out how much storage is required for recording a minutes footage @ 1080P 120FPS?

They have BT and WiFi, does that allow streaming to an external device like that or just for remote control etc? Ideally we would want to have the camera mounted but the memory card or footage, accessible and storable on removable storage like USB or SD Card.

your 60fps @ 720p sounds high enough quality to me.
If the main reason for recording your squash is to help you improve then I wouldn't spend too much time and money on getting the best quality possible.
the recordings I have done in the past, even over 10 years ago, showed where the weaknesses were in my game. (B grade)

squashskills.com use a Nikon D610 but they are still $2000 second hand, the Go Hero is $800.

Since you are a high graded squash player you might be able to offer me a tip if it's not too much trouble..

I am right handed, and yet my back hand movement and shots are almost always better. It feels natural to me to move to my backhand have my shoulders facing the wall and even volley.

My forehand drives that so straight and to good length seem to be a matter of luck/timing, and I just don't feel "right" going to that side. I know it's hard to comment without seeing, but any ideas why it might be? I don't feel as balanced or stable.

The body moves slower than the ball, so maybe the high spec is not required.

So I am now down to trying to decide on a GoPro Hero 4, or 3+. I think quality is ok for 1080P, and 60FPS is likely ok. Sorry for Dumb Questions, but 120 and 240FPS, are they just for slow motion? I want to be able to stop a video and play it frame by frame to check body and racquet position. I also want to be able to zoom. Now I am unsure if this is a video recording function or a software function, and if a software function, is there any low cost video editing software I should also consider?

Thanks for your help.

Gopro Hero 3+ Black .. Used at 240FPS WVGA to analyse forehand frisbee throwing technique. The high frame rate are typically used for slowmo, but you can step through them as well to look for tiny body changes.

I think I used the included Gopro software to switch between realtime and slowmo but I can't be sure now.

ps. Nope, I'm damned if I can make that embed work... the link at the top of the post works though

Yah I would want at least 1080P. That video is pretty grainy.
