I have just had my cataracts done and need new glasses can't afford speck-savers after spending nearly 8k.
So was thinking of using https://www.eyexpress.co.nz/reglaze in Hamilton has any body used them recommend either way. I have recently used optically nz for a pair and they were OK.
But I need a pair to include transition lens as well, hence my enquiry about eyexpress and the price is reasonable.

I used Zenni Optical in the US.

I have progressive/transition lenses and super impressed with the service. Just on $200 NZD for one pair of glasses.

Just to note that, while the company may be US-based, Zenni glasses are manufactured in China.

It's good to see some companies still offering re-glazing, and to hear that it's not too badly priced - out of interest, what have you been quoted from the Hamilton firm (and how does this compare to using one of the o/s based companies)?

(If you're looking at o/s firms (but I assume this means no re-glazing), I've used at least three I can think of and all offered better value than NZ-based firms - Clearly, Zenni, and Select Specs; all three were fine, really; amazing service from Clearly, but their selection is somewhat crud; Zenni glasses were ok but not the quality I'd hoped; from Select Specs (UK-based, I think) I was able to get the same Superdry frames that I'd tried on in Specsavers here for a much-reduced price.

Another option is www.ezyglasses.co.nz

I purchased from them in 2015 when they were reselling Zenni frames. The glasses arrived with the wrong prescription and they sorted it out without any hassle. I also purchased a pair of sunglasses directly from Zenni as EzyGlasses didn't offer the lenses I wanted.

My most recent purchase (a few months ago) was through Zenni. EzyGlasses had changed their frame supplier by then and I wanted something else, although I did contact EzyGlasses before doing so, hoping they still offered the old frames.

I recommend both.

https://mrfoureyes.co.nz/ is my recommendation. Great fast service and well priced. And NZ based even.

Had a reglaze done and very happy with the results.

(out of interest, what have you been quoted from the Hamilton firm (and how does this compare to using one of the o/s based companies)?

They have quoted $250 which I thought was pretty so probably send them to them, then I can arrange to pick up and try them as Hamilton is not to far from Tauranga at least if some thing is not quite right should be able to sort it

I've tried half a dozen online glasses companies. My eyes are sensitive to the lens prescription not being right, and not one of them could create glasses that my eyes could tolerate, even after some tried a few times. My local optometrist even put some of them through their testing machine, some were way off, some were pretty close but even the ones that got the prescription right my eyes didn't like.

I go to my local optometrist, the glasses he makes always work. New lenses from my optometrist cost about $280 without transitions, plus the eye test fee. If your eyes are less sensitive maybe you'll be ok with lenses ordered online.

I got lenses from Mr Four Eyes a while back, they were good too.

i have low strength bog standard glassess and used Zenni Optical, they are good for me. cheap as chips.

I haven't researched this yet and I don't know what the terms 'transition lens' and 'glazing' refer to. Would someone like to explain?

Transitions is just a brand name of photochromic lenses, the ones that darken in sunlight.

Reglazing is just replacing the lenses in your existing frames.

Disclosure: I don't have glasses but probably will soon so interested.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

This is quite an old thread. A seemingly legitimate post was made last night, but the user was marked as inactive and the post subsequently deleted.

As noted above, the only bad pair I had were purchased through a Zenni reseller, ezyglasses.co.nz (no longer selling Zenni frames). They put it right and it was actually cheaper to buy from them than Zenni directly. I have used Zenni for another three pairs since with zero issues. Going direct gives you more choices.

Worth the risk? I'd say yes. I've had four pairs for less than the cost of one from Specsavers. Only go to Specsavers for my free eye check every other year.

Get your prescription from Specsavers and get your PD number, go to https://www.clearly.co.nz/eyewear and get a set from them.

Did you get the PD measured from an optician or just using a ruler at home?

I have the prescription from Specsavers and want to try them from an online supplier.

I wear progressive transition lenses.

I am keen to get a lighter one ( weight wise) , perhaps a rimless one as the plastic frame one (no nose pad ) I am wearing, leave bad marks on the nose

though I wear contacts during the day.
