Fully Charged drive the VW EV
A pretty upfront video, intentionally favouring the ICE, but still giving a clear result for the EV
Clawhammer: Having a racing series seems to be an effective way of advancing development in things motoring. I know there is Formula E, and some of the advances made in that will trickle down to road cars, but how about a series for family sized cars, cars that the family with 2.3 kids may one day be able to afford. Maybe there is one already going that I haven't heard about yet.
Not aware and not needed. Racing allows high expenditure research to be carried out, that flows down to road cars. Traction control is one, regenerative braking is another, and no doubt more efficient ICE engines would be another. Safety as well I assume. There is a motorcycle EV series in 2019 MotoE I think its called, MotoGP, also the pinnacle, in a electric version
One day the entire globe might be solar powered, how cool would that be?

Isn’t it already?
With the possible exception of nuclear (and even its fissile material was produced in a star) all energy, stored or currently being absorbed, comes from the Sun. π
:-) yes correct!
Re phrased to global inhabitants energy consumption!
Aredwood: Surely a diesel car would be better for the environment than burning the diesel in a generator, just to get power for charging an EV.

About 2 degrees less than currently? ;)
But seriously, it looks like solar panels are more efficient at capturing solar energy than plants. Solar panels max out at about 22%, whereas photosynthesis is about 26% (https://www.britannica.com/science/photosynthesis/Energy-efficiency-of-photosynthesis), and only a proportion of plants' surfaces is chlorophyll. So every acre of land where green plants (or bare land or car parks) is replaced by solar panels will result in global warming.
