afe66: Otago polytechnic have started EV mechanics course covering electricity safety rebuilding batteries etc.
The lecturer in automotive engineering though they better setup the courses to upskill mechanics otherwise there was a risk that the electrical part of EV would be taken over by the Electrician lobbyists due to "safety" risks so that only electricians could do the work and freeze out the ICE mechanics.
Not so much the Sparkies they will have to watch out for ,
It's the Fire service who will deem working on lithium cells as a Fire and Chemical Hazard...
Interesting (though anecdotal) article on The Spinoff today in regards to what makes the most impact on your greenhouse gas emissions: solar panels or an EV?

afe66: Its not an Auckland thing. The relevant law was changed to make parking a non ev in a charging park liable for fine.
But if most of the chargers are on private land will anything change if council parking officers aren't permitted to fine on private property...
Sorry, I've only been living in Auckland 2 years now and I've already taken on the "nothing exists beyond the Bombay hills" attitude :D
As for the private land issue, I guess that's fair - assuming the private owner bought the chargers. It's up to them if they want to restrict those parks to EVs only

The overarching law has been changed, but it cannot be enforced by council parking wardens until a local by law is amended.
But as you mention this will have no impact on most carparking buildings and places like malls/supermarkets etc..

Ah, I forgot that most chargers are on private property, therefore cannot be fined with money!
NzBeagle: No different to the prams parks or mobility parks. And as EVs become more common I'm noticing more charging with out check-ins on plugshare.
I don't bother to check anymore. It's just a given the Vector chargers will have a queue and the ChargeNet ones will be vacant.
Mind you, the other night I was expecting to use the ChargeNet charger at Orewa New World (fortunately for convenience rather than absolute necessity) but there was another Leaf already there so I simply parked in a regular spot and bought my couple of groceries. When I came out, that Leaf was still there, and there was a second one waiting!

I had that problem on the weekend. Whilst the Chargenet app shows when a charger is in use, it doesn't show you that there are 3 other cars waiting, and you become the 4th :-(
One of the other waiting people complained that there was no way to tell if a charger it a Fast Charger or a Slow charger. When I said "but they are a different colour on Plugshare" they looked at me blankly.
