I am now a proud owner of a 2018 Nissan Leaf (new shape) in white ..

Just a shame it was purchased for $3 at the Warehouse and comes on a Matchbox card ...

On the plus side it has greatly reduced lifetime carbon emissions even compared to other Leafs.

I'm told that the rear legroom in that variant is a bit snug (along with everything else) :)

Bump - at the risk of bringing this thread back to its namesake, has anyone advice or recommendations for decent-but-affordable tyres?

I would go with ecopias unless there was a compelling reason otherwise.

My wife loses her job (for the second time in six months) at the end of the year, so yeah cost is indeed a "compelling reason"!

I'll certainly look at these, but my understanding is they're fairly expensive hence why I'm interested in alternatives.

I've managed a similar transition from expensive Bridgestone Turanzas (RRP $500 a tyre) on my Mazda 6 to Nexens which were less than $300 - the car handles fine in both wet and dry, and I saved a good amount. I'm hoping to be able to do something similar with the Leaf, taking into account the additional ideal of low resistance (noting my earlier post that this is the one factor that I'm probably more willing to give on).

Bridgestone is having a buy one get one half price, this applies to ecopias , I got a couple for $300 fitted however this was not for a leaf, different size maybe more expensive.

its a tough ask to spend $649 on a nice to have.

Now my headunit is setup eg timer, bluetooth, FM presets. I hardly look at it anymore. I'd consider it for $300 but no doubt the developer has spent considerable time and energy converting this and needs to make a profit. If that's what it costs then that what it costs.

The additional costs for owning a EV are already steep, $1,000 for a new 16amp circuit and isolater, $599 for a NZ charger, $270 for a Type 1 to type 2 cable, $200 for English conversion of the dash and now $649 for head unit conversion.

It would probably be more of a decider if i was in the market for a new (old) Leaf and had the choice between a converted and non-converted head unit. I wouldn't expect to pay more for it though.

I would hope EV Car Yards cotton on this and see if they can negotiate a bulk deal, maybe just jack the EV price up $400-500 to cover the cost of conversion.

In saying that I'd like to see optional package deals which cover a dedicated home charger, the headunit conversion above, etc,

Nice! What I save in gas in 3 months would pay for this, so not that big of a deal if you own a Leaf.

The video link didn't work for me.

Isn't this just a UK/US head unit installation?  That is not new.  The quoted price does not include installation of the new head unit either, according to their site. "We provide installation at additional cost in Christchurch".

Maps/GPS still doesn't work, so you're paying a lot of money for a the same functionality.

What you want is a software conversion of the existing head unit, that is the only way to make the cost reasonable for most.  I have heard that EV's enhanced is working on that.  I don't see maps ever working though, but in the age of the smartphone I'm not sure many people care.

I was sitting in a 2018 model, with CarPlay and was surprised the maps on your phone don't work, even using CarPlay. Apparently the GPS on the car is used rather than the one on the phone, so it still thinks you are in Japan!  Very disappointing!

Once they offer a NZ version of the 2018/2019 car (assuming they sell a NZ version here, not an Australian one) you could possibly order the head unit from Nissan with the right maps/language.

I agree with your points, but I'd like to point out a 16amp commando plug wired in should cost a lot less than $1000.  We paid $550.  The charging cables may come with your car already.

I got two quotes and $1000 was the cheapest, the cable run from switchboard to the carport wasn't easy and took 2 guys 5 hours. It also included the RCD/circuit breaker etc.

oh also got a larger cable installed so at some stage int he future I can go to 32A wallpod.

These aren't so much the 'additional cost' of owning an EV but the one-off cost. It is an investment as you will use this same equipment on your next EV, and the next.

Edit: spelling.

I don't believe it is. Well, it certainly wasn't what Paul (OEM Audio guy) said when I was talking to him a couple of weeks ago (about a separate matter - discussing his 16A charging cables, which I've been sent to replace my ChargeAmps Ray cable).

From what I recall they are able to alter the original head unit, ie, it's not a replacement with a UK- or US-sourced unit. Perhaps it's a 'swap' in that they provide an altered one and you give them your unit, which they will alter for the next customer?

As to the value of this, horses for courses - I'm happy with having paid $700 (or was it $600?) for a US head unit, despite a couple of annoyances. Others may see this as a waste of money. If they have been able to ensure all buttons on the original unit work as intended then that's fantastic, and a big advantage of the US units.

Except that what I save in 3 months has gone into paying for other stuff.

BUT: If they could alter my original head unit to do everything they mentioned PLUS have working GPS maps, then yep, they can have $700 from me!

Have fixed it now.

For future reference: Use the code for the video you find after the ?v= in the url on Youtube, and place it between the Youtube tags.

$800 got me a dedicated 32A cable back to switch board with an all weather caravan plug socket on outside of house. Cable ran under house, up the side of old chimney through attic an down to main board. My car came with caravan plug and an adapter to plug in wall socket. The rev has option for 10A or 16A.

While I can use 32A, I dont need to charge that fast so not need to buy wall pod (Car also came with type 2
