Yeah, that 2022 (almost 3 years away) date is ridiculous.

I dont see how. They want to sell as many as possible. You and others want to buy as many as possible. the issue is production numbers. If production equalled global demand they would be everywhere. They aren't until production increases. You should know that.

The problem is that New Zealand doesn't have the incentives that European countries have to drive the same demand and thus, interest the car companies. Europe starts receiving the ID3 from mid next year - we have to wait another 2 years, which just so happens to coincide with the governments announced incentives.

So you are saying that production is so high that it can easily satisfy all buyers globally? Including NZ, but in NZ no one wants to buy till the paltry incentives arrive?  That tells me that Kiwis don't care about climate change as they put $ ahead of carbon.

Incentives drive demand. Europe has incentives, NZ doesn't. Therefore, production goes to where the extra demand is which is Europe. The proposed incentives here are about equal with many of the European incentives.

So yeah, the manufactures are going to prioritize the countries where they can sell their products cheaper.

Ok so production is in fact limited. Yes, agree, NZ is low priority, low interest until the subsidy is here. Its about $ after all , not climate change

Yes, it's VW's first serious attempt at an EV that isn't a compliance vehicle (the e-golf) and they're retooling one of their factories to be an EV factory. It's not just Tesla that takes time to spin up their manufacturing ;)

I never said otherwise. Production is low globally, but making strides

On a different note, its clear that the manufacturers are getting stuck in. Well, they have been stuck in for a while now, but now we are seeing the fruits of that as brands are putting real cars up for grabs. In 2 to 3 years there should be a lot of choice

You may recall I was looking at a car for golf. I couldnt really justify an old Leaf, for what will be a car to literally just go to golf on. So I went back to my 6k Nissan Note option, and stumped for a 2010 Honda Fit Mugen for just under 9k with a NZ stereo and screen. Once EV range and prices improve we will look to flick the main car and likely the FIT for a couple of EV's one new one not new

I hear this all the time. Most people don't understand how serious climate change is already. They think they have a choice.....

Tesla is making more EVs than anyone outside China....and that's about to increase even more. You can order one today and have it in 3 months. No shortages.

I guess we now know what Amazon is getting out of its investment into Rivian

Amazon is buying 100,000 Rivian made EV delivery vans between now and 2024

The front looks a lot like the Honda E

The "ringed" daytime running lights trend is everywhere these days, Land Rover's new Defender has them too!
