you mean 4K with ultra-red night vision camera? 😀 I guess I have to wait for a bit 😁 I have the FHD home outdoor security cameras with night vision of course and even they are not perfect but will be really good for a car.

this made me imagine a ring floodlight cam wired to your reverse lights... :D

Yes, "For reversing down a long dark driveway" and not just that, we travel/driving on our holidays a lot and sometimes we get a narrow gravel round at the hill in the middle of nowhere, missing our turn and we need U-turn and its rain which blocks your reversing camera. In this moments I wish I have a few add.lights 😁

i have also thought of this, but didn't bother due to possible wof issues. for me it would help quite a bit because the rear, and both rear passenger windows are tinted dark. when you're reversing in an unlit area (you got it - 'long, dark driveway') or any poorly lit location, it does make it hard to see. the reverse camera does not do night vision, so doesn't help. even if it did, i don't really rely on just the camera when reversing.

I probably understand the reason, don't blind drivers behind, but they could make some exception. They did for the back tint windows, mine so black you can't see the passengers and know who can sit there ;)

This is double meaning 😂 I did not mean exception for me to blind other drivers.

I'm thinking in this days there are enough technology to make the lights removable. Removes them for a day for wof or/and put them back when you need it.

I'm thinking in this days there are enough technology to make the lights removable. Removes them for a day for wof or/and put them back when you need it.

And then be denied insurance because your vehicle was not up to WoF standards when you are involved in an accident.

Lots of vehicles have auxiliary backing lamps. For example utes and light trucks used in areas with poor lighting, especially in off road applications like farms etc. I don't know aout the legality, but I doubt that many modern vehicles are running around without WOFs

I have one on the back of my Pajero (removable). It's handy for retrieving the boat at night if I'm somewhere without street lighting. Also backing in dark parking areas when tramping or biking or whatever. It runs from the reverse light via a manual switch at the back of the vehicle and a 1 minute timer relay. So I have to get out and flip the switch on and then each time I put the vehicle in reverse, it will come on for 60 seconds.

I changed my reverse lights bulbs to some nice bright LED lights and it made a huge difference when reversing at night, even improved the quality of the reversing camera by miles

yes this is another solution, thanks. How much is "huge difference"?

The illumination difference was noticeable enough for me to do it for the wife's car too, worthy upgrade in my experience

I ended up changing the interior lights to some nice cool white LED bulbs as well, car lights up nice n bright in the evenings when you hit the alarm button 😁

other vehicle classes have different rules for reversing lights, General Vehicles, which is what we are talking about here have the criteria laid out here.

Try some LED bulbs and see how that goes

The LED options sounds smart. I have a VW and for some reason they believe we only need to have one reversing light and one white reflector for visual symmetry.. Some accountant is probably very impressed they have saved the company $50 million dollars over the last several decades though.

Pretty sure I read another thread here about an 8000 lumen torch... hmm

This gets trotted out all the time. AFAIK insurance companies have to show that the alleged defect contributed to the accident.

If I had to do a u turn in a tight space the passenger would be out there assisting after i had also got out and checked the road edges. In the past it was common for taxi drivers to play "now you see it, now you don't " using their hazard lights.

It's common for some makes to have a rear fog lamp on 1 side and the reversing lamp on the other.

Ive been using a combination of Philips, gtr lighting and xenon depot led replacement, however all mine have been the t5/t10/t15 variants

There are 100s of 100s of cheap led variants on the market now but I watched a few youtube vids to help decide on higher quality ones that weren't going to be blinding and had good light quality which lead me to those brands

Also put some nineo 9005 LED headlight bulbs into my cousins cruze with amazing results, these were chosen as LED's are correctly aligned as to not blind incoming drivers and still provide incredible illumination

The lamps has little cooling fans on them too which was quite neat

Not sure on that the deal is with p21w lamps but you may need to look at ones that have a resistor in them to your car doesnt show a blown bulb warning[if your car has this feature] as they draw a lot less current than traditional bulbs
