NzBeagle:
I believe that this is ok in NZ, there's a Mercedes semi-truck I'm aware of expected on the road next month with the Mirror Cam option fitted. In theory, it should provide better visibility, but will remain to be seen. Of course, it is not on the road yet, perhaps it won't meet NZTA requirement.

I've used a rear-view video 'mirror' in a Chevy Volt EV in Canada. It was really good, in my view.
I assume you get the benefit of a larger field of view? When the truck is on the road I'll take a look.

kingdragonfly: A US charity is raffling off any Tesla you want, including the model "X" ludicrous auto-pilot model. (Limited to US $210,000). You get to configure it anyway you want. Bad news is it's only open to US citizens.
Unlike NZ, in the US contest winner typically pay taxes and delivery charges. However in this case that's covered by the organization.
It's US $250 x 4,000 tickets, so the organization is raising one million less the $210,000 limit. It's clever because I suspect the organization is not paying for the car up front, but from the proceeds.
Obviously they'd need to sell 530 ticket to break even.
If there was a NZ contest, I'd enter it, because I'd want the steering wheel on the right side.
If someone approached Tesla NZ, perhaps they be willing to show a model X at a mall supporting the charity. I'd bet they sell out of tickets over the Christmas period.
They do this in places like the UAE. I saw a Ferrari raffled there at the airport!

I spent about 3 hours mowing today.
My mower has a V Twin 25hp petrol Kawasaki engine. I have no idea what the fuel consumption is in any meaningful unit.
There must be a lot of mowers in the world and I was thinking as I mowed (it's a very zen activity for me) where are the Tesla mowers?

Yes. The field of view was wider....and the colours were sharpened. It also handled changes in brightness outside the car really well.
I believe the new Audi e-Tron SUV can be spec'd with the camera side mirrors, not sure if the rear view mirror is a camera also, but it maybe.
I did see one in the Audi Wellington dealership a few weeks back.

Or NZ$55,000 for a HiLux?
Can't see many NZ farmers splashing NZ$200,000 for an electric truck. Or many American farmers, for that matter.

Obviously this vehicle is pitched to compete with the likes of the Mercadies AMG G63 (priced at NZD 263,900), the Lexus 570 (NZD 181,400), and more powerful range rover vairants (For the "range rover" prices range from $181,900 to $270,000).
The 450kW powertrain, and distinctive styling will be it's key selling points (for comparision NZ spec Hilux's make around 130kW)
These are low volume vehicles compared to the Hilux, but it is a legitimate market segment, and there seems to be no shortage of the vehicles I listed above driving around Auckland.
