I have never re pinned a fuse box before and it isnt hard, just get the pros to do it.

As for the relay, You could fit it all in behind the dash and only have to put it around the 12 socket, Run about 50cm of sensor wire to your ignition feed where ever you decide to take it from. Probably the radio.
You would only need to splice the wire, You can also get relay connector blocks and put some pins in so its all tidy.

Another way but easier than wiring in a relay - disconnect the power wire at the back of the lighter socket. And instead connect it to the ACC wire at the back of the radio. An FM transmitter is unlikely to draw much power, so the extra load on the radio's ACC power lead is unlikely to cause any problems.

That's how I would do it. Scotch lock from the ACC on the stereo to the lighter socket.

Right, keen on going the relay route. looks like there will be enough space under the console to hide it.

Only question is: how do I splice the switched signal (presumably coming from the radio)? As in what do I physically use to do that?

I am guessing I need to cut the cable that goes to the radio and then what? 3 way scotch lock?

You don't need to cut the wire with a scotch lock, but yes that's what I would use. Plenty of videos on youtube showing you how they work.

Hey I wouldn't go using a scotch lock on this multi strand wiring, it is something we would want to put into a connector block or get a little relay block with the relay. You should be able to buy something like this at SCA and it will come with pins you crimp or solider on and insert.

Looks like I got there. Blew a few fuses and for a while there I had the battery light on the dash and the battery wasn't charging :-( changed another fuse and all seems good.
I went the relay way BTW
