That's a lot of fast charges. You sure it's a real GEN 2? Those stats look more like a Gen 1.

Also...age of the battery is another factor.....as in time passing. That one if 3-4 years old. It can't have been driving much.....which can be not good for the battery. They like to be used ( but not abused).

My 2016 LEAF now has 19,000km on it...and the battery is still SoH 100%.

Using the free version of Leaf Spy does see the vehicle VIN left out. The Pro version included it. This sort of thing may explain why some data is "missing".

As for the high QC vs L1/L2, a lot of people in Japan live in apartment buildings or in homes where they can't provide L2 charging for themselves. Plus there are well over 14,000 fast chargers in Japan. So a lot of people in the Japan absolutely WILL fast charge all the time to keep their LEAF rolling.

Do some math. The total number of charges there is a combined 1,741. The car is a 2014 model? So 3 years old? 3 years = 365 x 3 = 1095 days.....so it looks like they charged it pretty much twice / day.....except on a weekends?

Is this an ex-taxi? Yet the distance is 16,328 miles / 26277km.

26277km / 1741 charges = an *average* of 15km per charge (of any kind).

To me, that is the weirdest thing.....but maybe they didn't go very far each day and topped it up almost every day? If so.....how to wreck a battery.

That said.....I've heard of cases like this where the new owner takes the car (which as been barely driven per charge) goes for a few good, long drives....and gets it down to 10% and then charges it up to 100% and repeats this a couple of times - including a good, long DC fast charge or two up from 10%....and the SoH can actually recover by up to 2% or 3% or even more......for a while.

@Linuxluver Yes, I just did the same calc. If you divide 1546 QCS by 2 times the number to weekdays in a year, and you get ~2.9, the age of the car. So some obsessive compulsive owner probably quick charged twice a day to and from work? Crazy.

Is B-mode worth it?

I'm trying to talk myself out of getting a X rather than an S, and the biggest niggle is losing the B-mode. But on the plus side I can get a better after-market stereo, and there are much better colours available at the moment.

Edit: I just thought of another very important consideration: Can you schedule charge times on the Leaf S? In Christchurch we get very low night-rate electricity.

I'd take B mode over colour/stereo but only because I'm not fussed on colour and can get stereo upgraded whereas not sure can retrofit B mode.

I drive in B mode virtually all the time (exclusively town driving) and use brakes almost only for red lights and arriving at destination. Tops off the EV driving experience for me, wish it was the default mode!

I've got the most basic leaf (UK) and it comes with scheduling as standard.

Also comes with "Eco" regeneration.

All LEAFs come with "ECO"...and it's good. Then they *may* have two drive modes: D by default, or B (if you have the option). B-ECO gives the most regen, but the car also feels most sluggish. I do not mind that.

I like B-Mode because the more aggressive regen means more range. I'm all bout range. :-)

My Tekna has a Bose stereo in it....7 speakers and all that.....but honestly, I prefer to drive in silence. I do play music sometimes.......but not if I'm the least bit tired or my mind is occupied by things I'm trying to think about. I tried it on Friday night.....and by the third song I was like "Shut the f*** up!" and turned it off.

B-Mode for the win.

My LEAF does allow you to set start and stop times for charging on specific days of the week. This is easier to do in a model that hasn't had the multi-media head unit replaced. Otherwise you need to do it via the dash settings. Get Google Translate out on your phone.....if you bought a Japanese model. I have a UK model....so everything is in English.

The Gen 1 models also allow you to tell it to stop at 80%. This was removed in the Gen 2 models. The battery is better in the later models.

To approximate that I calculate how much time will be required to reach a desired charge level from where it's at when starting. So my car today was on 51% and will take 2.5 hours at 16amp to get to 80%. So I set it to charge for 2.5 hours then stop. (12%/13% per hour assumed at 16amp....twice that at 32amp, if your leaf can do it).

I like B-mode for the familiar engine breaking feeling (for those used to driving a manual stick). Most of the time Eco+B would be my choice driving a Leaf.

I'd get 100km from 80% full battery around town, I don't need to do 100km/h anywhere usually.

But as I charge at home I don't really need to worry. IE drive it normally and when it gets to three bars, I plug it in when I get home.

Assume the terrain is generally flat, like in Canterbury.

It's all about the speed.

Greenrace reckons my 30kWh LEAF would be able to drive from Christchurch to Oamaru (250.47km) at a steady 50kph with about 9% left over (total range 277km). Max elevation reached is about 120m.

But what happens at a *steady* 100kph? My range falls to 162km and I might *just* make it to Timaru (161km). Doubling the speed cost me +/- 100km in range.

Other factors would be wind, heavy acceleration instead of light acceleration....and roads being wet or dry (dry is better).

I've experimented with getting up at 5am and going out on the highway when no one is around.....and you can be incredibly efficient when you're able to drive at 80kph instead of 100kph.....and take your time reaching the target speed instead of pushing the pedal down.

Your range is up to you and how disciplined you are about being efifcient....and about choosing routes that allow you go a bit slower without going much further.

It's a different way of thinking about driving and how you drive. I love exploring the 'habits' embedded in my head from 40 years of ICE driving.....and tossing them out, one by one, if they prove useless or counterproductive with an electric car.

My SOH=77% translates into ~16.3 kWh when charged to full, and based on my economy last ~1000km of 8.5 km/kWh, I can comfortably get >120km around town.

....and 120km is a lot of driving around town...and if you have a fast charger in town, you wait 20 minutes while charging and then do it again. :-)

People usually ask about the battery life of EVs.

The Gen 1 LEAF (24kWh 2011 and 2012 models) battery gave people good reason to be concerned. They degraded more rapidly than many would have hoped.

The Gen 2 (24kWh 2013-16 models) batteries are much better......and have proven to much more robust.

The 30kWh battery is different again and uses the battery tech also deployed in the KIA SOUL. These batteries are supposedly very robust.

So far.....my own 30kWh LEAF is supporting that. I went over 20,000km this week and the battery is still on 100% SoH (State of Health). No degradation. In fact, the amp-hour capacity of my modules has actually increased from 79.14 to 80.68.

Looking good so far! This screenshot was taken earlier this evening. The key item is the "SoH" value at top- centre-ish.

I should add: It's a 2016 LEAF imported from the UK. It's one year old (since first registration in the UK) last week....and it arrived in NZ in late October with about 4300km on it.
