Batman: Model Y gets 4860 battery, available for offer in states "in a few weeks", though it seems only in a new a standard range trim
Yeah, but they are coming out of Giga-TX ...
Unsure how long the production method will take to translate across to GIGA-CN which is currently still closed due to COVID

Looking into that it appears that this 'standard' model is AWD, so not the equivalent of the entry-level model in right-hand drive markets (currently in HK as simply the "Model Y", and apparently to be an option in Au/NZ, is RWD). Also, initially only available to Tesla employees.
Tesla has launched the Model Y Standard Range AWD starting at $60,000, but it only made it available to employees for now...
It is equipped with the new 4680 battery cells and structural battery pack technology, which is resulting in a significantly different car with different specs in the new Model Y trim.
Yet, Tesla never listed this new trim for sale and all we know about it was through an EPA filing that revealed it has 279 miles of range and an all-wheel-drive powertrain. It is billed as a ‘Model Y Standard Range AWD.’

Shanghai won't have 4680 packs for a while. Our "Standard Range" will be LFP and RWD.

They are building a 4680 plant in Shanghai but will be a while.
I'm wondering if the current situation in Shanghai is going to hold up orders opening. There have been some articles suggesting that it won't be opening again until Mid-May that the factory can reopen again. That might be a bit pessimistic (it is from an Oil news website) but if that were the case then any orders might not arrive until December or early next year

It may take that long to get back up to full production,
To open up they would need surety that their parts and raw materials suppliers were also able to operate .....
Telsa is very much into Lean 6 sigma, and hence is also JIT so they needs the full supply chain up before they can really get things out the door
Yep theres a big supply chain and tho tesla is very vertically integrated it still relies on a lot of other companies
If they are closed until mid may we wont see any 3s this Q and Ys may be off until 2023
A report on potential changes to the Model Y when released in Aus (and, by association, NZ); all/most aren’t a surprise, and while I’m not sure about a black car having started to get my head around having a white one, depressingly for me (but not surprisingly, given context) they talk of a late 2022/early 2023 release.
The noted changes are:
Showroom/Demo Model Y have been spotted on a transporter in Aus. Orders opening must be getting close now

Beat me to it by a couple of minutes!
I do search every day for new posts in the previous 24 hours, so just spotted this as well.
Great news, as I've still not found an EV either already available or coming in the next year or so that'll match the Y in terms of meeting our needs; thought the Enyaq may have been close, but range and charging speed seem to be an issue.
Also looks like Berlin is ramping with solid daily deliveries of cars in Norway, and Austin 4680 cars are starting to be delivered too
One day this link might work...

anyone knows why the roof is so concave scooped upwards like mount everest? the summit is nowhere near anybody's head (eg not for headroom)
i would have thought lower would be more aero.

huh whut
I just don't get why Teslas (with the exception of the S) are all so ugly. I like the technology (though no HUD is a poor decision) and think the cars themselves are fantastic for the market, price and everything, but it would take so little to make them really nice and futuristic etc.
