Nah, just going by the shape of the dent!

So I decided that the S was close to enough of a replacement of my BMW wagon I'd give it a go. They didn't have performance models available so I took the test drive of the standard model. It's PLENTY quick. Made my wife dizzy in about the first 30 seconds. Handling of both was *surprisingly* good.

The fit and finish is quite a bit better than it was on the last versions I looked at a couple of years back, but there are so many dumb things I can't get my head around:

1) Towbar or towing hitch voids the warranty. We have 4 bikes, it would be a real pain to not having a towbar (I use it exclusively for this).

2) No dashboard. No Telsa I don't want to move my eyes to the center console for speed. HUDS are cheap, and should be mandatory on all cars >50K in my opinion.

3) Can't remove the headrests, car seats are a pain if they are on.

4) No nets on the back of the seats. It's clear this car was designed by people who don't have kids or families or whatever. There seemed to be so many of those little things when we asked by the end my wife was not convinced.

The S is so much nicer to look at than the 3. I prefer the adaptive suspension as well.

I left more impressed than I expected to be, but also disappointed in many ways too. I was impressed that the performance and handling were so good for a car with no real pedigree to call upon.

Plenty of people have fitted a towbar to the 3 in NZ now and Tesla dont mind, legally they have to prove the towbar has caused any issue to avoid warrenty fixes.

total non issue for me, speed is easy to see without interrupting your driving and you get a nice clear view of the road. Takes about 10min to get used too.  3rd party hud is is pretty easy to add anyhow.

no idea what you mean.  no you cant move the headrest I dont find it an issue may depend on your build/height

1. I'm dubious on whether they can void the entire warranty of the car from installing a tow bar. I would think the CGA would counter this.

2. You mentioned driving an S, which does have a dash display behind the wheel for the speedo, navigation, etc. It's the Model 3/Y that only has the center screen. However, having driven a Model 3 for 6 months now, I have no issue with the center display for the speed. It's not the burden you're making out to be, plus like with any car you eventually get a feel for the car and can feel what speed you're roughly going without looking at the speedo.

3. Can't really say much to this as I don't have kids.

4. Are you meaning storage pockets on the back of the seats? The Model 3 certainly has these but from some Googling it does look like the S is missing these. That's generally been a thing about the S is that it lacks cabin storage, which is something they improved on with the 3.
