Although Tesla Model3/Y are pretty ubiquitous now, your experience above is what I feared. For that reason I took my car to the OEM for its WOF.

HarmLessSolutions:. I did do them the favour of turning off the OPD or who knows what they would have got up to in that regard.

Ahh, drive the car? They spend all day every day driving all manner of vehicles, I really can't see that being an issue in the slightest.

HarmLessSolutions:I get twitchy every time one of our EVs is left in the care of technicians as following a panel beater visit for our Leaf it took me a Google search to work out how to disengage the Japanese maps displaying on the screen thanks to a nosey panelbeater.

More likely they are a careful panelbeater disconnecting the battery before working on the car which has reset something to a default setting.

If they're not able to work out a fault, that is accompanied by a graphic, of the bonnet not being securely latched what mischief is to be expected from them in order to enable testing the braking if it's happening by default on lifting the accelerator pedal?

Also the Leaf map issue wasn't a reset. The visit was to quote on a minor panel repair which didn't require disconnecting the battery. The panel beater was just inquisitive.

Our Polestar2 has just turned 3 years old so last week the local VTNZ crew got to check it over for its first WOF since its delivery one.

The technician had "never driven anything like that" and returned the car to me with a prominant "Don't drive" banner displaying as they hadn't engaged one of the bonnet latches properly. Easily sorted but last night was our first night driving trip since the WOF and when full beam wouldn't remain on I was scratching my head as to the cause; recent software update, electrical fault, and then I remembered the WOF. They had obviously been exploring how to check high beam (park brake had them beat too) and succeeded in leaving the headlights in the off position rather than auto as is our usual practice. I did do them the favour of turning off the OPD or who knows what they would have got up to in that regard.

One day I will purchase an EV. But every time I hear of niggles like this (relative to ICE), that day pushes out a little further.

Other than one pedal driving, none of those things are EV issues. ICE cars famously have a huge dinojuice burner under their bonnet, for example.

Anyone recently purchased anything from chargemaster.co.nz in Auckland, both of the phone numbers listed on their web site come back as no longer in use.

I place an order with them for a charging cable a few weeks ago and have not had a response from them, they are not replying to emails, and their online chat is not working.

Stale instagram, dead facebook link. I suspect that whoever is running it has given up when I see that sort of thing.

Also a 1* review 3 weeks ago about a messed up order.

I would be looking at doing a chargeback at this point with them clearly neglecting their online presence and not responding. Someone closer might be able to have a look at the street address and see if its still trading or if the landlord has left a note on the door and changed the locks.

They are strongly associated with Partsmaster. (Same people backing it, I think operating out of the same premises). Give Partsmaster a call and see if they know what the deal is with Chargemaster at the moment.

If you take it to a polestar dealer like Archibald's right before it's wof is due ie a week left in the three year anniversary the polestar dealer would have given you a free wof too late for you but might help some other P2 owners.

As for VTNZ they really aren't that good anymore I wouldn't take anything to them at least not my local branch far too inconsistent.

Our P* was purchased from Giltraps and had its 2 year service at Archibalds who actually emailed me today to advise the WOF was due. Travelling from Taranaki to Auckland for a free WOF doesn't make a lot of sense though.

VTNZ are the handiest WOF service to us so they are our go to and being in an industrial area the car lane is often minimal waiting so nice and quick.

If you're technophobic best steer clear of most new vehicles these days. ICE or EV they're brimming with advanced electronic technology. Hell, our new washing machine even sends us a text when it's done 😉

More on BYD's PR issues...

ABC Oz: Critics on the carmaker's payroll | Media Watch

It's somewhat standard in China for manufacturers to take critics to court and basically fine them thousands. That part is not surprising.

Likewise it's not surprising that BYD pay influencers. That is common in many industries. It does surprise me that two experienced freelance Aussie motoring journalists entered into well paid contracts for reviews. Several publications have now said they will no longer work with those two because the publications value integrity of content and want zero doubt in that area.

Suing China based critics and reviewers is something that will eventually negatively influence perception of the brand in other markets. BYD need to find a better way of engaging.

Having just bought a new EV and reading through the last few pages of posts here, I was wondering what you all think is behind the slow down in EV sales?

Is it simply hard times and not many have the money for a new car, or is it those who where going to buy an EV have done so already?

I did read someone blaming the removal of the rebate system for the slow down, but looking at the price of EVs now compared to a couple of years ago and that argument doesn't hold up. I bought a pre-registered VW ID.5 Pro with under 100 Km on the clock for $50k, they were $80k at launch. Even if what I paid is the exception (although a quick look on trademe still shows most of the ID.5 cars for sale a month ago are still there), there are many even cheaper Chinese cars like BYD, MG, Leapmotor etc. which can be had for under 50k.

I personally think it comes down to most new car buyers not understanding EVs well enough, and getting caught up on negative stories they've heard about EVs, that they don't want to take the chance so they stick with what they know.

Currently, they just arent that much cheaper to run than a ICE. Especially something like an aqua or Prius. i think thats what most people care about
