The Government has announced that it will extend the road user charges (RUC) exemption for electric vehicles to 31 March 2024, saving drivers around $800 per year.

“Our Government is continuing to take action to tackle transport emissions to meet our 2050 carbon-neutral target – part of this is helping Kiwis into cleaner cars,” Transport Minister Michael Wood said.

We're not far off it now. 2023 mebe. It should already be there or close in places like Europe but the manufacturers are pricing the EVs higher, this isnt now due to cell cost. The EV variant is £10k+ more for no apparent reason.

In NZ the model 3 is now (with subsidy) $12k cheaper to buy than the equivalent slower more expensive to run German Auto and sales are showing it.

Tesla vs a German Auto isn't the same, but if you had one brand and model with an ICE and EV version, thats what people will relate to
