While we are asking road questions,

what is the legality of turning right into angled parking.

I know its not a good idea since you have to basically drive a nanna wagon or else you have to straighted up by backing back out and in again unless you have an empty park to swing thru,

But is it legal or not? I see people holding up traffic all the time to do it, and I was under the impression it wasnt allowed.

I'd say there is nothing illegal doing it...But if you do it when it's busy you're not doing anyone a favor!

There isn't anywhere where I live that has angled parking, so I've never really experienced the situation.  One of the cars I have has such a terrible turning circle that I actually need a straight in park, a wide berth or two empty car parks to pull in to my target car park anyway!

I do get right turners thinking they have dibs on the park that is on my side of the road ALL THE TIME though.  People on the other side of the road see a car pull out of a park on their right (or my left) in front of me, indicate right to pull in to the park and then beep and curse at me for taking it first...All the while, they've held up traffic in their lane behind them for a park that he/she was never going to get anyway.

Probably because under the old give way rules they thought they had right of way. Ie they were turning right into the car park and you were turning left ? Although that was turning into a street not car park I would have thought.??
A.

Not illegal just a really awkward and probably annoying thing to do.

On a similar note I believe use do angle parking wrong here, they should be angle in the opposite direction to the present and one should back into the park. It would be quicker and the driver would have a better view especially exiting, you wouldn't have 60% of your vehicle in harms way before you got cvlkear vision.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

This caught me off guard when I went to Australia for the first time. Driving into a town and all the cars are backed into the angled car parks (the car parks are also designed so its super easy to back in), was ridiculously easy to get out and the better view is obvious.
Not sure why it hasn't been implemented here other than the scale of repainting lines and loss of a few parks due to immovable lines (guttering and the like).

I had a big sedan once, pull to side to reverse into parallel park. A mini drives straight in knowing fully what I was going to do.

Is that illegal probably not.

Is it worth confining them and risk brain damage? Probably not.

Is swearing illegal probably not

Is swearing at a psychopath and rising brain damage a good idea, probably not.

In urban Australia malls precincts there are no ethics rules or etiquette. Bravest maniac wins.

With the reversing skills I see demonstrated on almost a daily basis I think your idea would be mainly of benefit to panel beaters!

Why? Backing blind into stream of traffic and cycle riders seems dangerous and more likely to result in accidents.

It might at least teach people to use their mirrors.

Kiwis hate reversing and will always reverse 'later' if possible!

Look at the parking at Pak'n'Save supermarkets (eg the Silverdale one).  You can either:
a - reverse into the space, then your car boot is in under the covered walkway so you can load your groceries in comfort and safety, or
b - drive forwards into the space, then unload your parking with your trolley in the car park, in the way of other cars, and you standing in the rain

So, why do 80% of drivers select option 'b'?

because the car park is so full that if you try to reverse in someone will zip into the car park as you pass it?

actually I have no idea, here the supermarket car parks have two parks end to end. so you need to go in front first so you can access your boot...

I can back out of our garage down drive way part 1 make a 90 degree turn into drive way part 2 and back the 50 meters to the street using only my mirrors

An advantage of having a mobility card is generally wider car parks so less likely to be hit by the numptys

Yep, much easier to go into a tight space going backwards. I do the same sort of thing with my trailer as well...and I'm not a truckie.

mind you the do-gooders want to ban all reversing on private drives don't they??
