I have been thinking about this a bit, and I am struggling to see why not. Why can nobody make a new Mini? I'm not talking about the BMW maxi marketing and design exercise, but a properly good small car. Everything seems to be getting bigger, cars that were smaller 10 years ago like the corolla and civic are now much bigger and finding themselves in the mid size segment. The Swift is probably the one car that has not really gotten hugely bigger with each generation.
So far as I can see, there has never been a true successor to the original Mini though. Surely it must be possible to make a truly compact 1000-1300cc car that can seat four with a small boot space and a design that minimizes empty cavities so the interior space is maximized. It must be possible with modern tech to make such a design safe too.
Am I crazy in thinking this, or is a true Mini never coming back and why not?
