I saw recently a luggage tracker Trackdot

I wondered how it over came the issue of being on during a flight. I there info they say that the unit goes into airplane mode , clever! quite how I wouldn't know. Most of us have experienced why they are a good idea. It will be interesting to see how they go in practice.
It did however made me start to think. Tracking anyone or anything across the globe is now a affordable option rather than paying for a breitling watch.

I was thinking how the trackdot unit decided when to turn itself off and on and if an app has been made for our mobiles to perform the same function?

If not some clever person on here should build one.

Anyone used the trackdot?

Oh my lord, annual subscription? You have to travel a whole lot to justify use

Probably turns off by air pressure.

Not quite an app, but using Tasker on my rooted android phone, I have it so it reads my google calendar and puts my phone in and out of flight move when I am flying. It even has a 'delay' mode.

Might be no longer lost in the true sense, you'll know where it is even if it's not at the same destination you are.  It won't stop your baggage getting misplaced which is really the main problem anyway.

There are any number of apps for tracking phones. Just put a cheap phone in your luggage. Track it from your other phone. Problem solved.

Of course, this (and the trackdot) depends on your luggage  being within range of free WiFi or some kind of cellular tower that it can talk to.

I use Tile personally, much cheaper without the need of yearly subscription (and its physically much smaller)

However a key difference here is Tile requires you or someone with the Tile app to be in close proximity to your luggage/Tile to know its location.. But Tile could be worth considering.
