Budget irrelevant within sane reason but say $500.

I drive a lot and see some horrors worth documenting - especially if one of them results in some numpty crashing into me. So really it is to provide good quality documentary footage.

There's a few places in Auckland that will do it for you under $120, it's really not that hard and there's always the internet to help.

I would think a car stereo installer would be able to do this easily. I had my local Toyota service centre do it for me.

+1 for techmoan.com

English chap doing tech reviews on things that take his fancy.

Has an interest in dashcam at the cheaper end of the market.

My one cost $180 with gps from china Mini 803 a couple of years ago  which has a more recent version.

(sits in front of my mirror with cable hidden to the cigarette lighter/charger point.

More than that probably diminishing returns on money.

I have this model

(Sheesh URL) Try this: http://goo.gl/l9bwIw

And it works very very well. It's very discreet and hides out of sight (of the driver) behind the mirror. I took power from the fuse box and ran it up the pillar so it's permanently mounted in. I like that it's good res, decent FOV and has GPS so it always records location, time and speed (in an overlay)

Well worth the $$$ just to ensure people stop doing stupid things in front of you :-)

Cheers - N

True and if I were not installing it in my pride and joy Land Rover with numerous airbags, electronics up the wazoo and so on I might have a go, but knowing my luck something would not fit back right on the trim, or I would set off an airbag by mistake...or the Terrain Response system would malfunction....or the suspension.....etc

Yeah - I would have agreed with you except so far not one thing has actually gone wrong with it. I agree that there is plenty of time yet, however!
