I have a Japanese import Toyota Ipsum which the battery died recently, and now the audio system is crippled with a "please insert correct map disc" on the screen. The audio model is an NDDN-W58 and some googling has revealed some dodgy overseas websites with various files to download and burn to CD. I tried this one but to no avail:

Anyone know where I can get a copy of the 'correct map disc' ? Or any ideas?

Try asking in the Toyspeed or ToyotaNation forums - I found ToyotaNation (US) users very helpful years ago when I had a Cynos with issues. Toyspeed is a local Toyota enthusiasts site.

Oh dear that's so annoying! Is the unit tied to the reversing camera too? How long was the battery flat for (might be helpful for other avoiding the same issue - must be heaps of cars at risk)

Battery was dead for about a day. Yes the reversing camera no longer works. :(

Have just attempted to contact the dealer I bought the car from last year, so will see how that goes...

I imagine the dealer should be able to help you since they have no battery connected when they travel to NZ, it would have lost the settings and been setup when it hit NZ

I assume that is the Japanese head unit that came with the car.

I would say cut your losses and swap it out for a NZ unit in English.

That way you have everything in English, NZ radio frequencies, Bluetooth phone / audio streaming etc.

Reversing camera just appears to have an RCA plug behind the stereo so nothing special there, you could get a nice head unit with a camera screen built in, or a cheaper unit, and stick a cheap dedicated screen to your dash somewhere.

At the risk of over capitalising your vehicle, I agree with @Scott3 above. Depending on how much functionality you want from the entertainment centre of your car even a dash kit and a single din head unit with BT, USB, etc may be an option.

Is the message you are getting a theft prevention measure? I know in a previous car (mondeo) you had to enter a specific code into the radio after the battery had been disconnected. Had to go to the Ford dealer to get the code, luckily no charge, but I assume that wouldn't be the case with an import (toyota dealer I mean). The place you bought it from would be pretty cheeky if they had a way to resurrect your radio and tried to charge you for it.

We threw out the "flash" unit that came with our Mazda because 1) All in Japanese 2) GPS no good here. Spent $230 (installed) for a JVC double DIN CD unit with USB (MP3) - been happy with that, its very rare we would ever use GPS. DO you REALLY need GPS ? :)

The dealer got back to me and said he has the disk that I can borrow (and make a copy of for future use), so I should be sorted soon.

@xpd - no we definitely do not need GPS, just want a working stereo and reversing camera - both of which are crippled at the moment.

No budget for stereo upgrades at the moment, but something to look at in the future :)

In my search for a new vehicle I tried a Subaru Outback, NZ New 2013, with Nav, etc in a dealer's yard . When I tried to turn it on, the battery was virtually dead and the infotainment system came up with an identical message to your one shown in @Scott3's image (without the japanese) . And likewise, even when the car was jump started, no access to radio or reversing camera.

The salesman didn't have a clue what to do about it. So, armed with the helpful suggestions from this thread, I made a couple of suggestions! I wonder how much a Subaru dealer would charge to resurrect the infotainment system if you just turned up with this problem?

Might ask the local Toyota dealer if the NZ New Camry with Nav will be similarly affected.
