Hey guys, anyone out there with experience/own a holden captiva?

Looking to buy one (V6, petrol, 2012, onwards) but the feeling is really mixed out there. Seems like a lot of bad ones.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Yes and it was rubbish, I have posted previously about my experience with this horrible vehicle. After 5 months ownership from new and catastrophic failures I handed it back to the dealer. My advise is to avoid, there are plenty of decent alternatives out there

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

We had heaps of these at work. They are unreliable junk with poor build quality.

I was looking to buy one around that time. I asked a few people who had owned them and they also said they have had problems and each had at least one visit to the dealer to get them fixed.

Had one as a company car not too long ago (it was a 2010 model I believe), and while I believe they've since done some sort of facelift/revision, I would never buy one. It was horrible to drive, it felt cheap and tacky, and it seemed to always need something fixed or serviced.

Thanks for the quick replies, especially from ones who have actually experience them first hand . Mother in law has one and has had no problems. Maybe just lucky.

I'm guessing you will only read bad reviews on the web as most people only complain but am finding a big trend in against this car.

As a small business owner, I am always careful that a customer with a good expierence may tell one other person, and a customer with a bad expierence will tell seven.

Question for the people who have had problems, was it the diesel version or petrol. I believe the diesel ones have the most problems with the rockers and leaks around the engine as these are made by Daewoo where as the petrol V6 ones are shipped by Holden to be installed.

I had one as a company vehicle, it was enough of a lemon that we broke the lease and replaced it.

Never again, the boot would randomly open, and that less than ideal in the streets let alone the motorway.

My uncle in Australia had one and had reliability issues, and also hated the cockpit layout.

He recently replaced it with a Hyundai Tucson which is a vastly superior vehicle.

Horrible things to drive - all the small holdens I have rented seem to be.  And why are their designers obsessed with having two grills on every vehicle?

Not Captiva related, but would never buy a Holden again after having problems with an Astra years ago.

Was a heap of junk and the final nail in the coffin was GMs recommendation that the cam belts needed replacement at 60 thousand Kms (not 100 km as originally specified) - due to really bad design.

Holden is just a badge that GM puts on all sorts of random odds and sods from their array of products.

Sometimes they source from Europe, other times Korea occasionally USA. Sometimes a certain model switches supplier altogether. I expect most buyers dont care - but I think continuity is a good thing.

They also seem very inclined to drop models extremely quickly - God knows how difficult that must make the parts supply.

I've known a couple of people who've owned them and they both said they're a pile of junk. John Cadogan reckons they're the worst mainstream vehicle you can buy:
