Hi

I am planning to replace my car tyres. I have two options now. Can anyone suggest me which one is best in the follwing?

1. Firestone TZ700

2. Michelin Energy Saver +

Thanks.

I just put Bridgestone Ecopia EP100 on my car. 215/60/16 for about $830 fitted.

I'm guessing they're a similar tire to the Michelin Energy Saver. Also depends what you mean by best. Once upon a time I was concerned only with grip. Now I want quiet and long lasting.

The XM2 is what I use. They offer superior grip and handling yet last a reasonable time. I settled on the XM some time ago after trying out a lot of different ones. My priority then was grip and they didn't last as long. Now I drive a lot more sedately, the grip is still excellent but they last a lot longer.

Speeding tickets + a few frights := sedate driving

Between the two you listed, I'd pick Michelin without knowing any more.

Otherwise we need to know what car, what tyre size, what driving style, where do you drive.

I figured anything under a grand was fine. Plus the Potenzas I had on various cars never got beyond 20,000km. So that would be three sets in the time I have the Ecopias!

lol

given the fact you are comparing an eco tyre to a non eco tyre and different sizes etc there is no way to compare. you could have a common 18in size whrre as the 16in one may not be a common one.

eco tyres are about $50 a tyre more than non eco ones with similar characteristics and of the same size.

I could say i got a set of 20in tyres for less than that what your paid for your 18's so you got ripped off with your 18's :)

I had the Ecopia PZX on my accord euro, and they were great tyres, i changed to Goodyear Assurance Triplemax as they were cheaper, and i wanted to try a different eco tyre. its not quiet as good as the bridgestone economy wise, not much in it though, maybe .1L/100km.

I also put the Ecopias on the front of my Jazz and they have been great thus far, and im about ready to change the rears too.

Slightly OT but there are some incredible savings in buying effectively new 2nd hand tyres where folks have upgraded the wheels on new cars.

My SUV runs on 255/55/18 109 rated $350 a pop tyres. But many new car buyers for some reason immediately want (IMHO unsuitable) 20" rims. I have twice now bought a complete set of 4 tyres with delivery kms on them for $600. But get this - last time I also got the brand new factory rims as well! The old ones had a few kerb scratches so I just told the tyre shop to dump them!

So when I think I am within a few months of replacing I just watch on TM for a set to come up.

Do you have a link to the place where you bought your 2nd hand tyres from?

Trademe. If you drill down to the tyres section under motors, you can enter a specific search on tyre dimensions, save that as a favourite and have it email any new matching listings.
