Loop is a car share platform along the like of Lime scooter and others.

They appear to be a start up company from Hamilton that started up in August this year I believe.

You have an app from the Apple/Google app store.

Once you register after providing the usual Credit card details and uploading Drivers licence details your are charged $20 which goes into your account credit.

I havnt used it myself but the concept looks very useful and the fees are quite reasonable.

0.25 c/min, $15/hr,$75/day. There are no up front costs.

You pick it up from designated areas and have to return to that location. I believe there is a $15 fee for one way useage.

There is an overnight fee which is I think $30.

Designed for the casual users that need a vehicle.

Im sure they will go nation wide soon.

Dedicated parking locations in the central city area-with signage

The common cars available are VW Golf, Holden Trax

Now who would use such a service??

Living in Wellington I know so many people who don't need to own a car, and can't justify the costs of owning one, but use services like Mevo/Yourdrive/Cityhop to rent a car by the hour when they occasionally need one. Mevo cars are free-floating within a certain zone, which is even handier as you can do one-way trips with no extra charge.

It'll be interesting to see how these are used in a city like Hamilton, which is a lot more car-friendly than Wellington, and where (anecdotally) it seems more people own and use cars.

I'm disappointed they've chosen ICE vehicles rather than EVs, or plug-in hybrids, but car-sharing like this is the future of mobility.

How does it work in practice for fuel. Is every user expected to top the tank?
