Hi

So I've set my eye on an BMW E90 323i, 2008 Model, Jap import.

Mileage is 65 000.

Reason I became interested is because of the low mileage and very clean condition. Otherwise I would think twice about buying a car that's 12 years old.
Price wise about $7000 without bargaining as yet.

Anything I should look out for when I view and take for a test drive?

Given the age the mileage is irrelevant to be honest. What's more important is the service history.

If the mileage is low because it's been sat in traffic in Japan and it's not been regularly serviced (or there is no history) I'd walk away.

I have an 08 NZ new E90 320d msport with 6 speed manual. Just clicked over 200k kms but with full history and was spotless inside and out. I've done nearly 50k in 13 months and it's been flawless.

I've owned over a dozen BMW's from 316i to 750iL's and this is in my top 3.

By all means take it for a drive though. The more you drive the more information you will have when you make a decision.

I'd be on the lookout for a good BMW mechanic to do a full pre-purchase inspection and talk to about maintenance costs including recommended preventative maintenance to avoid known issues.

That's my issue with Jap Cars, either they do not come with FSH and service book, or spare wheel or spare key.

On the other hand, I know the importer personally as a friend actually, and is a registered vehicle dealer and car enthusiast. He brings in good stuff only and vehicles that he'd drive himself before selling at times.

So he registered this vehicle in his name and using it currently. Some cars he sells straight away as a dealer, others he will register for himself and use.

Nonetheless, he's still looking to get rid of it so this is a business deal for him. Reason being, he's relocating.

Don't know much about the car itself, but I'd be wary if a car dealer told me they'd registered the car to themselves - that could be an indication that they're trying to sell it privately (often with some discount/sweetener) in order not to be bound by the CGA or similar.
