We recently acquired an A4 B8 for my wife. We bought it from a friend and while it was in generally very good condition the one annoyance was that it didn't have bluetooth audio. We could have added a bluetooth dongle to the AMI port but after a fair bit of research decided to order a Carplay/Android Auto interface.

We bought this one which was $270USD including DHL shipping. The seller was very responsive on chat and confirmed we'd selected the right unit.

It arrived here in Dubai in three days and I fitted it in about 2-3 hours. It came with a full loom kit so there was no cutting wires or soldering. It works with all the factory controls and the steering wheel controls work perfectly. It even came with a factory Audi microphone which was easy to install in the factory location for a second mic.

Carplay is wireless and appears to "just work" with Android Auto wired. One of the reasons we chose this unit was it uses the factory screen and doesn't require any overlays or touch screens. The factory screen isn't amazing but works fine and having true carplay and Siri on it is well worth it for us. Obviously it wasn't cheap but it works well for what we wanted.

I've decided to finish the job and add a reversing camera so will install that in a couple of weeks when it arrives.

Better thanthe offical aftermarket solution that Alpine offer...which I was quoted at $5700 + install.

Which MMI version did you have?  2g, 3g, 3g-high?

Mine is the 2g I think, a Concert with SD card (no nav etc) - http://a6retrofit.tripod.com/articles/audimultimediasystems.html

It's MMI 2G high I believe.

It's concert with an AMI port in the glovebox and no dial on the centre console.

There are different models available for different MMI models.

Do you have the single SD card on the bottom left?

Sounds like the same as mine.   I found a video with an aussie crowd that sell them, but for MMI 2g they would saying a touch overlay had to be added.

You installed yours yourself?  in through teh glovebox and pulled the radio out?  I'm kinda interested, but not sure I'm keen to try and install myself.

Yes sounds like the same stereo. This one doesn't use an overlay on the screen so you don't have touch controls, you just scroll around on the concert or on the steering wheel controls.

I installed myself with the box behind the glovebox. The trickiest part was running the microphone cable from the microphone mount. If I hadn't installed the microphone then I wouldn't have needed to drop the glovebox.

There are a number of YouTube videos showing installation of similar units. I found these two useful.

That's quite neat. I've long been a fan of the S1 but the lack of options for upgrading audio has been a factor in me avoiding it. Instead I bought a Mini and then found out I couldn't do anything with that either.

That's what those numbers usually mean, so yes on the driver side, 23 on the passenger side.

Yeah. I normally run the house at 26-27 but I like the car a bit cooler.

When it's 45 degrees outside it still feels cool. Now we're down to a high of 31 its nice.

Interesting ... thanks for that. I run my Porsches at 19, but then I’m living in Otago at the moment, so it probably 15 outside.

You adapt to your surroundings and the economic incentives. To give some context I spend something on the region of NZD$1000 a month on power in the middle of summer. It's in my best interests to adapt to my surroundings.

Now if we run the AC at 23 it feels freezing.

Just a quick update. This is still working very well. I've installed a reversing camera which works very well.

I also found that the unit does wireless Android auto which is brilliant. We're very pleased with this as a solution.

Not that old, sadly. I’ve got a 991.2 GTS and a Macan GTS. I’m thinking of speccing a 992; I have put a deposit on a Taycan but I’ve got big time range anxiety, so will probably swap to the 992.
